Untitled[edit]

  • DAF = "Van Doorne's Automobiel Fabriek". Oh. So it is not because it makes a far-from-daffodil-like smell from its diesel exhaust pipe. :-) Anthony Appleyard 16:44, 13 June 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Fair use rationale for Image:Daflogo.jpg[edit]

Image:Daflogo.jpg is being used on this article. I notice the image page specifies that the image is being used under fair use but there is no explanation or rationale as to why its use in this Wikipedia article constitutes fair use. In addition to the boilerplate fair use template, you must also write out on the image description page a specific explanation or rationale for why using this image in each article is consistent with fair use.

Please go to the image description page and edit it to include a fair use rationale. Using one of the templates at Wikipedia:Fair use rationale guideline is an easy way to insure that your image is in compliance with Wikipedia policy, but remember that you must complete the template. Do not simply insert a blank template on an image page.

If there is other fair use media, consider checking that you have specified the fair use rationale on the other images used on this page. Note that any fair use images uploaded after 4 May, 2006, and lacking such an explanation will be deleted one week after they have been uploaded, as described on criteria for speedy deletion. If you have any questions please ask them at the Media copyright questions page. Thank you.

Confusing article[edit]

This article is confusing as its title and lead appear to be about the current DAF trucks business owned by Paccar, but then it has the original business and the car manufacturing History in depth, with a side article for the 1980/90s Leyland DAF bit that then went bust splintering out of the middle in a separate side article, and LDV Limited

Is this supposed to be the whole DAF Story or DAF Trucks or ? Confused - BulldozerD11 (talk) 23:27, 27 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed merge[edit]

I fully support merging DAF NV into this page and turning that page into a redirect, as proposed by Fixer88.  ⊂| Mr.choppers |⊃  (talk) 07:30, 28 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

DAF truck naming[edit]

Since DAF trucks often share numbers (DAF 1600 for instance, used on several vehicles over a long time) there must be some sort of names for each generation of DAF trucks that can be agreed upon so that we can easier begin creating articles. I welcome any and all proposals and will crosspost this on the Dutch DAF talkpage for more (and likely better informed) suggestions.  ⊂| Mr.choppers |⊃  (talk) 07:30, 28 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Proposed merge of Leyland DAF[edit]

  • oppose There is as much, if not more, reason to merge Leyland DAF into the original Leyland Motors Ltd article. As it's impossible to merge it to both, the best solution is to leave it as three separate articles, as at present. Andy Dingley (talk) 19:55, 3 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

More on its decline[edit]

There should be more info about the decline of DAF passenger cars. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 82.139.87.10 (talk) 16:34, 18 October 2014 (UTC)[reply]

DAF TRUCK STORY OMISSIONS AND MISTAKES[edit]

In the DAF TRUCK story there is a photo of an FT2600 with "cab over" in the description. The 2600 models did not have cab over capability which is why the 2800 was developed with a tilt cab. There is no mention in the history of DAFs involvement in the 1970s to make light weight trucks in collaboration with Volvo, Saviem, Miguirus Deutz. This collaborative effort was called "The Club of Four" Those trucks had common cabs and chassis but each marque used their own driveline. It was abandoned after a few years. Prototypes and special cars[edit]

This section is so awkward. First, it mentions a ‘a huge number of prototypes’ without ever returning to the subject. Then it says ‘famous coach builders like Giovanni Michelotti and OSI’ implying that there were others, but it doesn't mention those. It doesn't mention here that Giovanni Michelotti did earlier work for DAF, the design of the 32 and 44, which I think is important context. Yes, it's mentioned elsewhere, but this article is enormous and you cannot expect the reader to have read all of it. Finally, ‘used one of these’ is ambiguous.

management buyout[edit]

FTA: ‘Following difficulties in the British market, After DAF NV was placed in administration in February 1993, the Dutch operations were sold in a management buyout with the business branded DAF Trucks.’

  • ‘Following difficulties in the British market,’: I feel something's missing here. Problems in a single market are hardly going to sink a brand unless there were severe problems marketing its products generally, which I gather was the case. The fact that there's a capital letter after the comma confirms my suspicion that some text must have gotten lost somehow.
  • ‘management buyout’: It says elsewhere ‘the Flemish and Netherlands governments holding the majority of the shares’ so that sounds more like a desperate government rescue than a management buyout to me. Also, why the governments sold it to Paccar isn't explained very well. (Also, either ‘Flemish and Dutch’ or ‘Flanders and Netherlands’. Pick one.)
