The subject of this article is a well-known journalist and writer here in Britain and to World Service Radio listeners and viewers of BBC World Service TV from the 1970s and has successfully made a transition to academic research, with some more serious work on route to publication. His research paper 'The Relevance of Positivism in Social Science' received special attention from academic researchers.

Deepak Tripathi[edit]

You have removed Deepak Tripathi's bibliography? You claim (pretty inconsistent) that the bibliography is not relevant to Wikipedia when there are numerous biographical entries of historians, researchers and writers with essential bibliographies. Otherwise how could significance be established? Astonishing case to try to make! I do not quarrel over the Wikipedia editorial and writing style, which I leave to administrators, as I am not an expert. Your call. —Preceding unsigned comment added by SurreyLibrarian (talkcontribs) 21:44, 28 November 2010 (UTC)[reply]

It was a pretty ridiculous and muddle-headed thing to do, and the list deserves to be put back. Of course Tripathi's bibliography is significant, and of course it contributes to proving that Tripathi is himself notable. Chiswick Chap (talk) 08:31, 24 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]
Dear Chiswick Chap,
Sorry to trouble you. This is Deepak Tripathi, whose Wikipedia page you have kindly saved and improved in the past.
Someone (user name: GorgeCustersSabre) has drastically edited this page about me to the extent it looks like a case of vandalism, which is disturbing. The editor's user page suggests s/he comes from Pakistan. Information about me is widely available online – Royal Historical Society, Royal Asiatic Society of Great Britain and Ireland, Heriot-Watt University, Roehampton University, History News Network, CounterPunch and a variety of other sources.
This is bad. And I do not wish to do anything to the page, but may I request you (with other editors) to kindly restore it to make sense? I would be grateful.
Kind regards,
Deepak Tripathi, PhD FRHistS FRAS

I am a bit worried about whether the tone of some the readditions is that useful. My feeling is they read like we are trying to assert or claim notability in the face of doubts. EG I feel in:

Tripathi is treated as a major author on world conflicts, such as in Afghanistan, notably for his books 'Breeding Ground' and 'Overcoming The Bush Legacy in Iraq and Afghanistan'.

"Major" seems, in particular, problematic. Might it be better with a more neutral

"Two of Tripathi's works on conflicts have been particularly noteworthy."

And then included some more neutral description of their content. I don't think we need praise from the reviewers. Readers might get that from the reviews. They are some of my thoughts on this (Msrasnw (talk) 09:50, 24 November 2011 (UTC)). PS I am writing as someone who was one of the three keep !votes[reply]

All I was trying to do was to introduce and summarize. Feel free to tweak and tighten the intro prose. Chiswick Chap (talk) 10:08, 24 November 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Dear Chiswick Chap: You might want to look at Deepak Tripathi's updated biography at his blog. There are some additions, including a PhD in social science, his dissertation title etc., affiliations and the next book which completes a trilogy, to be published in 2013. In case of any interest to Wikipedia. Best, Deepak Tripathi — Preceding unsigned comment added by SussexResearcher (talkcontribs) 21:55, 7 October 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Hello. I edit in good faith. It is outrageous to accuse me of vandalism. And my nationality is no-one's business. It has not influenced my editing of this largely unreferenced page. Assume my good faith please. Wikipedia requires citations to reliable and authoritative third-party sources. Two good sets of Wikipedia guidelines that I have found really useful can be found HERE, regarding verifiability and HERE, regarding the need to maintain a neutral point of view. According to WP:VERIFY, "Any material that needs a source but does not have one may be removed." It also says: "All content must be verifiable. The burden to demonstrate verifiability lies with the editor who adds or restores material, and it is satisfied by providing an inline citation to a reliable source that directly supports the contribution." So if you want to criticize me for removing unreferenced information, please remember that the burden is not on me to find references. If you want to add the information again, the burden is one you to provide the citations. And by the way, Deepak Tripathi, I think you need to step back from trying to influence the way this bio page looks, otherwise you run the risk that someone will add a header template that you are closely associated with it. Washington Post review of Deepak Tripathi's book & modification of links[edit]

Hello Wikipedia Experts,

I have just modified and fixed the broken link to Antigonish Review (affiliated with St Francis Xavier University, Ca) with a review of Deepak Tripathi's book "Overcoming the Bush Legacy in Iraq and Afghanistan" (ref 14) and added a review by Christopher Schoppa in the Washington Post of the same book (ref 16). But two links (ref 2 and ref 5) to the Royal Historical Society Fellows' list and Aligarh University's alumi list are showing error messages, though they seem to be live. I am a librarian, now retired from a public library system that has these books for academics and general readers. I occasionally try to update this article, but do not have good enough technical skills. Sorry I cannot fix these couple of errors. Please could some Wikipedian fix these faulty links? Deepak Tripathi: My Wikipedia Page[edit]

Dear Chiswick Chap/other editors,

I do not wish to get into an argument about the way whole sections were deleted on my Wikipedia page. Once a BBC News editor myself, I respect skilful editing. Let me say the following –

After the recent bout of editing, one sentence reads:

"After a year at Aligarh Muslim University,[5] he wrote a book on Afghanistan.[6][7]"

What does it mean? How are the two parts of the sentence connected? It needs context explaining why the book on Afghanistan was written and published.

As regards my education and career, how does one find "third-party sources"? I know where I studied and worked, and journalists write about others. Others do rarely write about journalists. My life and career are recorded on many sources which have been listed.

I should be grateful if you could salvage the page Deepak Tripathi. What I have said is factual, not "outrageous".

Kind regards,
