[edit] Content

A little information in the article would be nice... :) Please see Wikipedia:What Wikipedia is not. --Brion

More work needed on his sideman work with Oliver Nelson, George Russell, Coltrane and Mingus.

[edit] photo

Removed the request for photo, the painting should be enough? Meaningful username 11:00, 13 February 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Density 21.5

It says he performed and 'recorded' Density 21.5. Where was it recorded?

I'm equally curious. Only found unspecified references similar to this article's (some of them probably are mirror sites), one website says he recorded another one of Varèse's Densities. Would really love to listen to this recording. ---Sluzzelin talk 03:04, 5 March 2007 (UTC)

[edit] Notable instruments

I've added bass clarinet to the Notable instruments part because in jazz bass clarinet is an uncommon instrument. Is there more information on the bass clarinet Eric Dolphy played? I can't find any on the internet. Emmaneul (Talk) 13:06, 5 June 2007 (UTC)

Thank you Emmaneul. It is my belief that every instrument an artist plays on PROFESSIONALLY should be included in the notable instruments section. So, again, thank you. (Mind meal 14:00, 5 June 2007 (UTC))

[edit] Dolphy day

Reference to Dolphy day @ LeMoyne college in Syracuse removed. This day is named for the school mascot (the dolphins) and is for college kids to get drunk on a spring day, nothing at all to do with Eric —Preceding unsigned comment added by PhacopsRana (talkcontribs) 20:40, 22 October 2008 (UTC)

[edit] Zappa reference

The Eric Dolphy Memorial Barbecue is an instrumental song by Frank Zappa which appears on the album Weasels Ripped My Flesh —The preceding unsigned comment was added by 67.71.108.183 (talk) 02:37:19, August 18, 2007 (UTC) This instrumental was incorrectly described as a "tribute". Anyone who has listened to the track will know it is a blatant mockery of Dolphy's style.

It's not a mockery of Dolphy's style. Read the liner notes to Zappa's Freak Out. The title of the song is a mockery of the then omnipresent Eric Dolphy tribute songs albums (i.e. So Long Eric, etc.) —Preceding unsigned comment added by 199.4.155.10 (talk) 21:22, 5 March 2009 (UTC)

[edit] Last Year

I cited the source in question regarding the circumstances surrounding Eric Dolphy's death and cleaned up the two accounts into one paragraph. For my money the information in the liner notes is inaccurate, but I guess we'll leave that up to readers to decide.

I also retitled the section from "Last Year" to "His Final Months (1964)", I think that would be a little more appropriate.

"which almost literally made his instruments speak" <-- this is crappy writing —Preceding unsigned comment added by 128.62.212.82 (talk) 01:57, 30 April 2009 (UTC)

[edit] References

This article has almost no references! It tells a good story. It just to be backed up. Life.temp (talk) 15:27, 20 April 2008 (UTC)

Yeah - the thing about Coltrane considering him his "only musical equal" seems a little unlikely, I thought Trane was much more modest than that. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 70.57.45.91 (talk) 02:17, 8 September 2008 (UTC)

Dolphy's death is clearly a bit controversial. It would be helpful if the article specified which "documentary" cast doubt on the original French story. "..a later documentary"? Cite that source, please! —Preceding unsigned comment added by 114.162.145.150 (talk) 06:27, 6 May 2011 (UTC)
