Named after General Erskine?[edit]

I failed to find a good source linking the (later) name of the barracks to General Sir George Erskine. The dates make sense – he retired in 58 and died in 65, and the HQ buildings are from around 68. I saw the "Our Wilton" page but there's a good chance the writer (in around 2016) consulted Wikipedia. --Wire723 (talk) 15:47, 24 January 2021 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, that is possible but I suppose it's better than no citation at all. In practice George Erskine was GOC Southern Command from 1955 to 1958 which was based at "Fugglestone Camp" so it is just too great a coincidence that the barracks would be named after anybody other than the former GOC.
