What languages does he translate?[edit]

I'm surprised no one's yet flagged it as a problem that this article about an acclaimed translator makes no references to any translation from any particular language to any other language :-) Gronky (talk) 21:58, 2 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Yes, it is rather strange, isn't it? As much as his theories are talked about in Translation Studies courses like the one I graduated from, I don't think anyone has ever mentioned which languages he is actually proficient in. I'm Googling it now, but no so far no luck. Tooironic (talk) 05:36, 17 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
New Testament Greek was his main source language, I would guess... AnonMoos (talk) 18:59, 28 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

He translated from Greek into multiple native languages in Central America. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 170.140.65.37 (talk) 14:10, 29 August 2011 (UTC)[reply]

It's quite funny that he died both in Brussels and Madrid. I wonder how he managed to do so... — Preceding unsigned comment added by 91.176.70.139 (talk) 17:09, 17 August 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Apparently he himself never translated the Bible. I quote from the book The History of the Reina-Valera 1960 Spanish Bible by Calvin George, pub. 2004: "Some readers may find it hard to believe that Nida never was a Bible translator, nor did he ever serve on a translating committee. He simply used his experience and knowledge to provide advice to Bible translators before, during, or sometimes after their work was over. Nida explains it in his typical modest style: "I have never translated a chapter of the bible for publication, nor have I ever been a member of a translating committee. I am simply a linguist specializing in language and cultural anthropology." - Nida, Eugene A. Fascinated by Languages. Amsterdam/Philadelphia: John Betjamin Publishing Company, 2003, p 135." Where did he die?[edit]

Some sites say "at his home in Brussels", others say "at a hospital in Madrid", and others say "at his home in Madrid". A UBS website, hopefully well informed, said "hospital in Madrid". Maybe I have to revert to some forbidden "original research" and ask one of his colleagues.Pete unseth (talk) 19:25, 18 December 2012 (UTC)[reply]
