  • The writer/social anthropologist Madawi Al Rasheed writes that they had to leave Saudi Arabia after 1975..as her fathers sisters son Prince Faisal bin Musad had assassinated his paternal uncel, King Faisal of Saudi Arabia. Nothing is mentioned about the Rashidi connection on the Prince Faisal bin Musad page, perhaps it should be? I am presently reading the book by Madawi Al Rasheed, does anybody else have a knowledge/opinion about it? -Look at the Rashidi page and discussion site for ref. The Celebration of Prophet Muhammad's (PBUH) Birthday[edit]

This article states: "where King Faisal was holding a celebration for the birthday of Muhammad, the prophet of Islam"

This claim needs backing up, the celebration of the birthday of the Prophet (PBUH) is agreed to be an innovation according to Sunni doctrine, so how could King Faisal (the ruler of Saudi Arabia) be celebrating it?

It is not a claim. It is a fact. He was at the blessed Mawlid. On another note, it is a lie that 'according to Sunni doctrine' 'it is agreed' to be an innovation. Because Sunni doctrine is Ash'ari and Maturidi, and not the salafi/wahabi doctrine practiced in state in Saudi Arabia. King Faisal was not a wahabi/salafi. Sunnis are those who follow the four schools of jurisprudence and have the Ash'ari and Maturidi 'Aqida. Lets see how many Sunni scholars do celebrate and attend the celebration of the blessed birth of our Master salAllaho 'alayhi wa alihi wa salam around the world

Celebration of Mawlid al-Nabi is a national holiday, and a great day of happiness in Malaysia, Indonesia, Brunei, Maldives, Sudan, Mauritania, Morocco.

The King of Morocco himself attends Mawlid including all the Sunni Shuyukh of Morocco and Libya.

Turkey has 100,000 Mawlids in Rabi'ulawwal. The Mufti and Awqaf of Turkey, including all the Sunni scholars attend Mawlids. There is no wahabi there.

Mawlid is the national holiday in Afghanistan, Pakistan, Bangladesh, where more than 90% of the population and Sunni scholars celebrate it.

I concur, religious innovations such as celebrating a Prophet's birthday is typically forbidden in Saudi Arabia. The simplest explanation would be that the NYT writer didn't know this, after all, they didn't have Wikipedia. :) However, according to Wikipedia, Sunni's believe Prophet Mohammed was born on 12th of Rabi'-ul-Awwal, which happens to be the 25th of March in 1975 (with a small probability of error). It's possible they had the Prophet's birthday in mind, or it was just coincidental that a town-hall meeting was held on the same day, but as far as I know celebrations are never thrown. But kind of a moot point now, since that bit has been removed.--Fshafique (talk) 01:44, 10 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Apparently, Wikipedia already has an article on this celebration: Eid-e-Milad. And rightly enough Saudi Arabia does not support it, and its religious establishment forbids it.

I suggest that people check out www.alhabibali.org to see what kind of bid'a Mawlid al-Sharif our Habeeb salAllaho alayhi wa alihi wa salam is. Also check out the website of Shaykh Abdul Ghaffar al-Shareef of Kuwait. He is among the head of the Awqaf there. A major Sunni scholar. Allowance[edit]

Doesn't make sense and I'm not sure how to fix it. $800,000 ÷ 12 = $66,667 and $15,400 X 52 would come to $800,800, so the % is probably a typo of the key next to $ (which I corrected in the middle of editing this comment). Using the inflation calculator at: http://www.usinflationcalculator.com/ $3500 in 1975 would be equivalent to just over $15,400 in 2014, favoring $3500 as the weekly rather than the monthly 1975 allowance. The fact that ($3500 ÷ 7) X 30 = $15,000 is probably just a coincidence. ☺ Dick Kimball (talk) 12:27, 25 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
