Sources needed[edit]

Interesting article to stumble across, but it needs some sourcing! I searched for the Detroit Omars and couldn't find any team by that name. In 1923 there was a team by that name in Indianapolis -- "a team made up of Middle Western Conference college stars" per the Reading (PA) Eagle of 3/19/1923 (in an article about the Omars playing against the New York Celtics). Because the name "Omars" is unusual, and this was the only team I could find, I assume this must be the team Franklin College played, right? Is there any source for an Omars team from Detroit? And who named Franklin national champs in 1923? We certainly need a source for that. (Years later the Helms Athletic Foundation nominated the University of Kansas as champs for that year.) Thanks! -Kgwo1972 (talk) 17:32, 6 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]

FYI: This article [1] says the Omars were named after Omar Bakery. There was an Omar Bakery building in Indianapolis (still there) but I can't find reference to one in Detroit on Google. I think the team must have been from Indianapolis and not Detroit. Also, coach Ernest Wagner's Indiana HOF article [2] does not reference a national collegiate championship. -Kgwo1972 (talk) 17:54, 6 June 2012 (UTC)[reply]
