Possible errors[edit]

I've just finished reading Mission to Tashkent (Jonathan Cape, London 1946). According to p. 209 Bailey didn't join the Cheka, but the counter-espionage service of the general staff called in Russian "War Control" (Voinye Kontrol). This had been a branch of the Cheka, but had just been separated. His assignment wasn't to find himself. According to p. 212 the government was perturbed by rumours that British officers were in Bokhara - still independent at that time - drilling and organizing the Bokharan army. It turned out that these British officers were two N.C.O.s, who had accompanied Bailey on the first part of his trip.

I doubt whether Bailey could have been a national hero immediately after his return. After all he wasn't allowed to publish his account till after WWII.213.61.190.202 (talk) 13:55, 1 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]
