Contested deletion[edit]

This article should not be speedily deleted for lack of asserted importance because his books were at one time fairly standard fare for many Aikido dojos, especially those with children's classes. In addition he has written some rather politically charged articles on the Nippon-kan webpage that have raised some heated discussion in the Aikido community (particularly amongst Iwama stylists)-Rufe (talk) 04:31, 8 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I agree - Gaku Homma is a well known and notable Aikido teacher. This article needs a little time to develop.Peter Rehse (talk) 04:36, 8 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

I expanded it some - and added further references.Peter Rehse (talk) 06:26, 9 April 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Last Uchi Deshi Controversy[edit]

There are several competing claims to be Ueshiba's "Last uchi deshi". For example, Hideo Hirosawa also claims this[1]. This article only includes Homma's own claim as the source material for his being the last uchi deshi (his own website). I think the article should show that it is Homma's 'claim' rather than just a fact and that the claim is contested if his own website is used as evidence. Also, the existence of other conflicting claims should be indicated. Additional evidence would also be good 'back up' for Homma's claim. There may be an interview with Morihiro Saito in which he indicates that Homma was at least present at Ueshiba's dojo as a boy, although unfortunately, IIRC Homma was the interviewer. It is also of note that the time period indicated is the last year of Ueshiba's life, during which he succumbed to cancer. There are competing claims for Ueshiba still being present in the Iwama dojo at this time, and if he was there, the amount of teaching he did (as a very old cancer-sufferer) to either uchi deshi or regular students is also contested.— — Preceding unsigned comment added by 202.232.52.138 (talk) 23:43, 29 January 2013 (UTC)[reply]
