Expansion suggestions[edit]

  • (1) I'm still looking for date of birth info. The August 2006 bio says he's been married for 45 years, so that helps, but it's not enough.
  • (2) There should be a little more about the books beyond the Five Love Languages series. He has 15 books total, and a couple of the others should be in here.
  • (3) Nothing yet about the seminars.
  • (4) He's been a guest on the Focus on the Family radio show a number of times. Something about that might be in order, as it has surely helped his book sales and increased his familiarity among the core audience.
  • (5) Given that the 1996 edition of the core book is in the Amazon top 50 (#43/#44 during the hour I've worked on the article), the series itself should probably get an article if we can muster up enough of a profile for it. The latest addition, The Five Languages of Apology, is coming out in September, 2006, and already is moving up the ranks on Amazon based on pre-orders. (I was interested to note that the Spanish-language edition of both the book AND the audio CD are already set for release either simultaneously or shortly after the English edition.)

Update: My browser crashed before I could save my work, but I'll need to come back later and add an item about Doubleday's announcement that they signed Chapman for a 2008 book, to be co-published by Doubleday and WaterBrook Press. It was in Publishers Weekly's Religion Bookline, Dec. 7, 2005, which also mentioned that the Love Languages series had sold 4 million by that point and that the original book had been on their bestseller list for nearly 10 years and was currently at #1. Reminder to self: Do the search again for bio/profile/interview.Lawikitejana 22:25, 22 August 2006 (UTC)[reply]

I may have found the birthdate from a Library of Congress listing here: http://id.loc.gov/authorities/names/n79104903.html If verified, someone please update the info - I have no idea how. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 108.184.206.46 (talk) 22:42, 17 April 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Word of Affirmation link[edit]

This currently links to 'Praise' - is that what Chapman really means by Words of Affirmation, or does he mean something closer to encouragement? Hugh Mason (talkcontribs 11:50, 14 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Where's the Beef[edit]

Is he married? Is he divorced? Does he know what he's talking about? Just wondering. 69.19.14.24 (talk) 04:56, 7 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]

At a glance: He's an anthropologist, but his book claims he does couples counseling. This page doesn't mention a counseling license. The only source regarding credentials is an expired link. As far as I can tell, there is no psychometric validity to any of his claims. He is billed as an author and radio host, but his claims are psychological in nature and worthy of interrogation. The entire page needs reworking. 129.244.19.53 (talk) 21:39, 26 February 2023 (UTC)[reply]
It still very much needs reworking. The current version feels suspiciously like it was written by his publicist or agent. Johnfromtheprarie (talk) 08:08, 3 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]

All the references on this page seem to be either information provided by Chapman's professional staff or his own books. I would like to see links to criticism of his work, especially academic criticism.

Agreed. I'm going to add some content to that effect.Shirki (talk) 16:26, 5 March 2024 (UTC)[reply]
