Question about the lede[edit]

I have a question about this sentence in the lede of the article:

  • On October 6, 2013, Gorakhpur became the world's longest railway platform, after inauguration of the remodelled Gorakhpur Yard, with a stretch of around 1.35 kilometres (0.84 mi).

In my understanding, the word "platform" means the long, flat area on which people stand and wait for a train to come in. The yard is where trains are kept when they are not transporting people and goods. So, how could the inauguration of a remodelled yard cause the platform to (a) become longer, and (b) become the world's longest railway platform? Perhaps, if the word "station" were substituted for "platform", both the sentence and the claim would make sense. CorinneSD (talk) 21:19, 27 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
