Errors[edit]

Okay, the original fleet was not all St. Louis Car...the first 130 were...and later after St. Louis folded Bombardier built 30 nearly identical cars to allow the last of the 1926 cars to be replaced. I think that might correspond to the 78/79 date given in the article. Those dates definitely do not correspond to the rebuilding of the fleet which was, I think, in the 1990's. One would not need to rebuild cars that were less than ten years old...think about it. So that needs fixing.

Also, the 1926 cars were not heavyweights. I think it would be fair to describe them as "heavyweight style." But you'd be surprised how much aluminum was on those 1926 cars. Rooftops...electrical conduit etc.

Anyway, I'm not making any changes, not yet anyway, as I would need to check to verify the exact dates and find cites etc. But my info is correct to the best of my knowledge.Filmteknik (talk) 04:29, 3 April 2010 (UTC)[reply]

New fleet[edit]

Are the current bi-level fleet made by Nippon-Sharyo actually called Highliners as so stated in the article? It is my understanding that Highliner refers to the St. Louis Car and Bombardier cars of the 1970's, not the new N-S cars of the 2010's.N9jig (talk) 05:02, 14 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Nippon Sharyo calls the new fleet "Highliner".[1] Metra also calls both of the new and old fleet "Highliner".[2] --にび三郎 (talk) 14:24, 14 February 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Highliner Naming Confusion[edit]

I recently found myself poking around the Nippon Sharyo website and came across the naming scheme of what are generally known as the "Highliner 2"s. Turns out the three active models have three separate names, so I am considering to update the article to reflect this official naming scheme:

- "Highliner" - Metra Units Built 2005-2006 (https://www.n-sharyo.co.jp/business/tetsudo_e/pages/zusametra-emu2005.htm)

- "Gallery Type Bi-Level EMU" - NICTD Units (https://www.n-sharyo.co.jp/business/tetsudo_e/pages/znictd.htm)

- "'Highliner II' Gallery Type Bi-Level EMU" - Metra Units Built 2012-2016 (https://www.n-sharyo.co.jp/business/tetsudo_e/pages/zusametra-emu2017.htm)

The most common name for all of the METRA EMU's is "Highliner" and given the article's level of detail I would keep them combined. See how the page on Silverliner and Arrow (railcar) are currently handled. In the case of Silverliner some of the individual classes are broken out into their own pages as enough detail was added.Sturmovik (talk) 01:07, 4 April 2023 (UTC)[reply]
