Untitled[edit]

The article certainly touches upon a topic which is worthy of an article. Unfortunately does not begin to approach enyclopedia, or journalistic, standards and will need consierable work to get there: To improve, please consider:

  • TITLE: clear, but if this article is to get attention it may need to be reconsidered
  • STRUCTURE: is crucial as material is now presented randomly
  • INTRO: what are the facts? facts? facts?
  • HISTORY: dates? when and where?
  • CCONTMEPORARY SITUTAION/IMPACT: what is the impact and interpretation of the situation? what are the relations between the diverse groups?
  • REFERENCES:They are required and in this can be found by certain others which already touch on the subject. Please see Category: Hudson County, New Jersey to continue your work.
  • I have tagged as unreferenced, added a few categories, and removed it from Hudson County, New Jersey demographics section until such time as it as these issues are addressed.Djflem (talk) 14:21, 6 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
    • This article needs a lot of work. First of all, the article title seems bizzarre, maybe it's just how I imagine the word presence to be used as some fleeting, minute occurence, like as in a ghostly presence... either way, it doesn't seem to fit. Not to mention that using Hudson County to encapsulate the locations is not very accurate; Union City, West NY and Gutenberg host the most hispanics; and its safe to say that Hoboken, Secaucus, Jersey City and Bayonne have no real overwhelming presence of hispanics; just fairly diverse. If it wanted to specify northen Hudson, I'd agree to that, but there are also some very southern Bergen County towns that house more hispanics; ie: directly north of West NY. There is no real name for the Hispanic community areas, unless we wanted to create one (kidding) Now on to the article. There is no good explanation in the article why, how, when, where about the subject; that's not to say that we cannot find any, but these histories are better defined per town article; when you have specifics (like Cuban-Americans in UC for lace industry) that cannot generalize throughout the entire county, you can't really make a good claim and have to really generalize the article, like "Hispanics moved to HC for work" which is terrible and pretty obvious reasoning for most immigrants throughout the world, other than religious freedoms/oppression. Also, why are there just as many sentences on non-Hispanics in this article history? Maybe a single sentence, or a link to earlier European settlements would suffice instead of even mentioning really anything about the Dutch, German etc. Finally, why is there even a list of notable Hispanics here? We already have them listed under their respective cities (and if not, they should be) as well as falling under Hudson County residents category (again, if not, then they should) and if the desire to create a category like "Influential people of Hispanic ethnicity or descent in northen Hudson County New Jersey" then that's fine, that would be a better and more true article name as well.
Overall, the subject could have potential for building an interesting article, but everything that I see on this page, including the title IMO are not worth keeping and may be easier to simply delete. If this page remains for any longer or gets any work I highly doubt any of it will resemble what it is now. The name has to be changed/moved. The content has to remove anything about non-Hispanics (which accounts for much of it) and the list of residents should be removed. I would put this in AfD again, I disagree with the the decision to keep it. - Theornamentalist (talk) 14:49, 13 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Please see 11 April edit in which I deleted some text, written in broad strokes and completey unreferenced. Still don't think it salvagable but in farinessDjflem (talk) 05:29, 15 May 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Copy edit[edit]

I've completed a copy-edit on this article. I removed some promotional text. I added some information from the supplied references, and rephrased other information to better match the reference cited. I provided some additional wikilinking. The article does not appear to now have any original research, nor to be blatantly unencyclopedic, so I removed those tags. The removal of the promotional text should also take care of the WP:NPOV issues, so I removed that tag as well. However, the article does need more references, and it needs a lead section as per WP:LEAD. Overall, I have to wonder if this article might be better off merged as a section of the Hudson County, New Jersey article; it seems a bit persistently thin on content. // ⌘macwhiz (talk) 22:40, 9 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
