Mining or Marine ?[edit]

The title and the first few lines of the article don't agree. Which is it? --Wolfram.Tungsten (talk) 21:24, 24 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I have always heard it to be Marine. (Read Varner's book; know some of the secondaries, many family and friends formerly employed by Huge Air Crash). 143.232.210.38 (talk) 23:40, 14 September 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I think this is wrong: "The HMB-1 was designed to be submerged under the Glomar Explorer to conceal any salvaged remains from Soviet observers.[1]" I mean, perhaps the reference states that, but it appears to be incorrect, factually. The HMB was apparently used to contain the lifting vehicle after assembly, then sunk so that the Glomar Explorer, when placed above it, could transfer the lifting vehicle into it without exposing its design/presence to the public. This is supported by the first external link, the docu "Raising of the K-129". 76.220.52.232 (talk) 11:28, 22 February 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Yep, the location should be noted as near Treasure Island. I won't link that for the long term. 198.123.56.229 (talk) 21:00, 6 November 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Project Azorian lifting device[edit]

The article as it now reads asserts that the HMB with the lifting device was submerged on the underwater piers, then the Glomar Explorer was positioned over the HMB and the lifting device was hoisted into the Glomar Explorer through a retractable roof on the HMB. I'll go back and research this, but I think the lifting device was left on the piers, then the HMB towed away. Then the Glomar Explorer was positioned over the lifting device while it rested on the piers, and the lifting device hoisted into the Glomar Explorer. — Preceding unsigned comment added by PaulLambert (talkcontribs) 13:53, 18 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]

I stand corrected. The article is correct as written: The HMB was submerged and left in place while the Glomar Explorer was positioned above it. — Preceding unsigned comment added by PaulLambert (talkcontribs) 17:23, 21 March 2015 (UTC)[reply]
