Untitled[edit]

There already is a page for the andhra pradesh, India, version of kapu, which is unrelated to the Hawaiian kapu. I deleted the information. Jamesfujita (talk) 11:12, 29 January 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Needs Citations[edit]

Nearly all of this article is "citation needed." Bluemonkee (talk) 23:50, 3 September 2012 (UTC)[reply]

A lot of citations in the endnotes of this long article, while the article is analysis, it includes a lot of historical details well-sourced that could probably be added here & the sources may provide support for some of the missing citations. https://theobjectivestandard.com/2018/11/the-need-for-philosophy-in-the-islands-of-the-blessed/ Phil (talk) 05:58, 13 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]

==KAPUS ARE CHODAS?==

Kapus are not Telugu Chodas, Renati Chodas, Pothapi chodas, etc. There is no inscriptional evidence for this claim. No single inscription is telling that kapus as chodas. How can you say that Kapus are Chodas. Choda surnames are in several BC, SC castes. Even Vijaya Nagar kings, Chandragiri, Penukonda, Udayagiri dynasties are also not kapus. There is no inscriptional evidence for this claim. check this. According to India Today Kapu/telaga/balija/ontari population is only 15%.

The abolition of the kapu system is solely regarded in political terms here. Could it not be that there is a sociological aspect of this development? That the extensive kapu system simply proved too onerous for the population, and they reacted with "cultural fatigue" (Kroeber)? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A02:1210:3ECB:2600:F591:5A5B:8E74:DFA (talk) 14:22, 8 January 2023 (UTC)[reply]

New Zealand English usage[edit]

"By contrast, in New Zealand, the comparable word "tapu" is almost always applied in English as meaning "sacred"." - says who? I grew up in one of the less Maori areas of New Zealand and experienced both meanings, if anything I would say 'forbidden' was more common than 'sacred'. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 149.248.103.106 (talk) 19:58, 24 December 2021 (UTC)[reply]
