Catchphrase: I'm getting too old for this shit[edit]
There is a category for catchphrases. I've seen multiple references to the catchphrase "I'm getting too old for this shit" this week. The Supernatural S5 episode Good God Y'all! features an old African-American hunter saying "I'm getting too old for this". The episode of How I met your mother, Murtaugh, ( Murtaugh (How I Met Your Mother) ) also features it prominently. Where else has it been used? - The was an episode of Farscape that used it. Pop culture mentions was kind of a thing on that show, though, so it was totally an in passing that has never been, to my knowledge, acknowledged as a direct homage to the Lethal Weapon series. Inclusion of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia parody[edit]
In the episode of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia entitled "Dee Reynolds: Shaping America's Youth" (airing November 11, 2010), the show's protagonists had created their own version of a Lethal Weapon 5 video. The spoof video was clearly entitled "Lethal Weapon 5" and used both Martin Riggs and Roger Murtaugh, the two protagonists of the Lethal Weapon film series. Due to the specific use of the Lethal Weapon film series in a popular, currently-airing, television show, I thought it appropriate to include a paragraph about the spoof in the Lethal Weapon (film series) Wikipedia page, especially since those interested in learning more about the Lethal Weapon film series are likely to be interested in knowing about the spoof appearing in an episode of It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. For some reason, another member of the Wikipedia community decided to undo this edit. I am re-posting the paragraph, having given the aforementioned reasons for its inclusion. Because the paragraph was informational and pertinent, of sufficient literary quality, and in no way disparaged or hindered the current statuses of either the Lethal Weapon film series or its cast and crew, I submit that the re-posted paragraph should not be removed. I am unaware if the individual who sought to remove the paragraph is more knowledgeable about the Lethal Weapon film series than I, but will certainly respect any valid reason why the paragraph of the spoof is unfitting of the film series' legacy. - This article is not about parodies or spoofs, it is about the film series itself. I am more knowledgeable about what goes in Wikipedia and what does not. Philly's spoof is not a canonical (or non-canonical, for that matter) part of the actual series, any more than Austin Powers can be counted as an Ian Fleming film. At most you can put it in as an "In popular culture" section below the existing sections, however such sections are becoming undesirable and other users frequently remove the sections altogether. Don't be surprised when someone does that. As to the edit warring and ignoring notes on your talkpage, you really should have brought this here several days ago, when your text was removed previously.--Kintetsubuffalo (talk) 09:55, 22 November 2010 (UTC)
- Also, to drive the point home, you should read the lead paragraph of articles you edit. This one says "Lethal Weapon is a series of films starring Mel Gibson and Danny Glover as a pair of LAPD detectives. All four films in the series were directed by Richard Donner, and also share many of the same core cast members." Does your week old sitcom sketch meet any of those criteria? - I have to agree that there's no real reason to include the spoof except as, at most, a passing blurb (which speaks to the cultural impact of the series I suppose): "The franchise has been spoofed on other shows such as...blah blah blah." THe gory details of the spoof in question are best left to the articles of the series/movies/etc. that did the spoofing. The only exception I could see is if several, reliable third party sources were commenting on the spoofs. Even then, the details of the scene probably won't merit a mention. Ten years later, with the notability of the IASIP LW5-6 episodes established by the reliable sources mentioning them when they were excluded from the streaming packages, it may be time to revisit mentioning these in the "In Other Media" section.
