Chandragupta Maurya

I doubt if Chandragupta Maurya is a Jain. I read elsewhere in wikipedia that he was a Shudra. The fact that a particular emperor gives patronage to a particular religion does not put him into that religion. I have read that ancient Emperors/kings gave patronage to multiple religions :) Khalil Sawant 19:15, 26 August 2006 (UTC) I also have doubts about Deepak Chougle. Chougle sounds a Marathi Surname Khalil Sawant 19:21, 26 August 2006 (UTC)

I believe Chandragupta converted to Jainism near the end of his life, moved South with Acharya Bhadrabahu, and died through Sallekhana.--Qmwne235 23:40, 8 November 2007 (UTC)

New article name

I do think that the a more specific name is a good idea so it becomes not just any Jain there is. However I'm not sure that we want to restrict it to just historical Jains which would rule out many living jains. Also the capitilisation is wrong it should be List of important Jains in history. --Salix (talk): 13:15, 20 October 2008 (UTC)

Cleanup

As it stands, this is not an encyclopedia article, and it could be subject to deletion or merging if it is not fixed. Lists cannot consist just of a list of people, but have to have some kind of context. --Coredesat talk! 01:11, 29 September 2006 (UTC)

The name of this article suggests a list of every single living Jain. it is simply famous ones ... plus its not very interesting and I think it may violate WP:ENC. I may suggest it for deletion after I have finished my homework. Jake95(talk!) 15:28, 21 April 2007 (UTC)

No, it doesn't suggest a list of all Jains. Do you think List of Harvard University people is trying to suggest a list of all graduates of Harvard? "Not interesting" is subjective and an invalid reason to want something deleted. I agree that it should have some kind of context, but that can be fixed. There are plenty of lists that nevertheless do not have context and are not encyclopedia articles, but still exist without even a thought of deletion. After all, it does not exactly violate anything as to what Wikipedia is not. List of Anglicans and Episcopalians gives an example of a list that has all the characteristics you criticized: little context beyond the obvious, a list of members of a religious group, and not an encyclopedia article. I realize that the former has more context and is better formatted, but those can be fixed. I understand your concerns; please post something on my talk page if you want to debate this. --Qmwne235 23:51, 8 November 2007 (UTC)

Someone please help clean this mess up. The list is FULL of non-notable names! I suspect more than a handful of these names have edited wikipedia in recent times. Assistance will be appreciated. - Amog | Talkcontribs 18:09, 27 October 2009 (UTC)

Cricket

Do real Jaïnists play cricket?

Aren't they said to respect (life of) all kinds of living beings? But cricketplayers use bats and balls made out of wood; to obtain that wood a tree has to be cut = killed.

Furthermore cricket is played on a grassfield, of which grassplants are mowed repeatedly. Mowing is very violent for those plants and players indirectly cause it. --VKing (talk) 04:51, 15 March 2010 (UTC)

Semi-protection required

This article needs to be semi-protected. A lot of anon IP's and new comers (who have created an account for just editing this page) are indulging in blatant self-promotion and thus abusing this article. I request some admin to look into this matter.--Indian Chronicles (talk) 07:10, 3 November 2010 (UTC)

Cleanup 2

As mentioned before on this very talk page, this is meant to be an encyclopaedia article, not a phone book or yellow pages. Any names that (a) do not have an article and/or (b) do not have valid references (especially in the case of BLPs) will be removed. —SpacemanSpiff 06:04, 11 July 2011 (UTC)

And the relevant criteria for inclusion is listed at WP:NLIST. —SpacemanSpiff 06:09, 11 July 2011 (UTC)
Nowhere it is mentioned that it should be wikilinked. I know this article has been abused previously for self-advertisements. Hence I had requested semi-protection for this article. Removing all unlinked articles may be one way to solve this problem but it is not fair as many lists have unlinked entries. Removing all unlinked entries may also removed legitimate entries. I suggest that this page be semi-protected.--Indian Chronicles (talk) 06:20, 11 July 2011 (UTC)
If there are notables among the unlinked they have to be sourced to reliable sources. As such this list violates every aspect of WP:V. e.g. even a bluelinked Sunderlal Patwa has no sources here or in that article to state that he's a Jain (note: I'm not questioning whether it's true or not, I'm saying that we need reliable to say that). That is actually a BLP violation. Everything needs to be sourced. WP:OSE isn't a valid argument, this has to be applied across all such lists. Semi-protection can be tried once the list is cleaned up and sourced and if the problem continues, but at this point it can't get any worse. —SpacemanSpiff 06:30, 11 July 2011 (UTC)
There is now a clear notice of the BLP policies that will be visible to anyone who edits (per [1]). Any content failing the WP:BLP and WP:V policies needs to be removed with all due haste. -- The Red Pen of Doom 15:44, 20 July 2012 (UTC)

Names deleted by The Rahul Jain

I am truly surprised by the names deleted by The Rahul Jain

https://en.wikipedia.org/w/index.php?title=List_of_Jains&diff=586446803&oldid=586224168 Most of names deleted are famous Jains. In any case there cannot be any dispute in the names of Padma Shri Awardess, Padma Bhushan Awardess and Padma Vibhushan Awardees.

Can someone please restore the names?Malaiya (talk) 01:03, 18 June 2014 (UTC)

Can you provide reliable sources which say that they were Jains? --Rahul (talk) 05:22, 18 June 2014 (UTC)
