Karpechenko[edit]

Georgii Karpechenko, inventor of rabbage (the first ever non-sterile hybrid obtained through crossbreeding) This is clearly a misunderstanding. Hybrids (yes, intergeneric hybrids) were produced in orchids well before this period, and fertility of hybrids is not at all groundbreaking in plants. Raphanobrassica is important as one of the earliest examples of allopolyploidy (Grant's Plant Speciation, 1981, has more notes on this), not because it is a hybrid. --♦♦♦Vlmastra♦♦♦ (talk) 02:48, 13 March 2011 (UTC)

I have specified that it was a hybrid of distant species. I'm not a biologist, and perhaps I'm wrong. Anyway I think that hybrids between different flowers are less impressive than between so different looking vegetables :) So I think that a note on hybridization should remain in some way.
