Misuse of eponymous?[edit]

Per Merriam-Webster, the term eponymous is the thing after which something is named. So in the case of "Allen Street", being named after William Henry Allen, it would be Mr. Allen who is eponymous, not the street that is named after him.

Per Eponym, it is both. However, if you disagree with that understanding, what else would you propose as the name for this article? -- Michael Bednarek (talk) 14:44, 27 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
List of streets in New York City named after people? MichaelSimonJohnson (talk) 19:18, 12 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
There are examples for either form (List of eponymous roads in London, vs List of American places named after people), and then there is Category:Lists of eponyms. Maybe this ought to be raised at Wikipedia talk:WikiProject New York City for wider discussion. -- Michael Bednarek (talk) 06:45, 13 August 2014 (UTC)[reply]
