Spotted hyena[edit]

For anyone asking why I put "outside of protected areas" after the mention of spotted hyenas being possible extirpirated: it's because spotted hyenas are the most abundant large carnivore in Africa, and are listed as least concern by the IUCN.

Source for this info? More specifically, a WP:RS for there being a population of spotted hyenas in Algeria right now? This uses the IUCN's list of ranges as a source. Ddum5347 (talk) 14:24, 22 April 2021 (UTC)[reply]
