Question and answer[edit]

Why is the map in the picture showing Kyrgyzstan when the village belongs to Tajikistan?... --94.21.163.190 (talk) 06:23, 19 March 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Probably because it's a very small exclave within Kyrgystan, and doesn't show up on the Wikipedia maps of Tajikistan. Skinsmoke (talk) 17:26, 27 June 2010 (UTC)[reply]
Can someone confirm the exclave answer?--DThomsen8 (talk) 16:19, 10 March 2014 (UTC)[reply]
The recently cited reference states, "The reason for various names used in reference to these territories is their proximity to a larger village, which by default gives them its own name." The pushpin map has been changed to Tajikistan for the village that is in Tajikistan. Jeff in CA (talk) 00:54, 10 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks for updating the broken reference. One thing is not clear to me though: this article is about an exclave of Tajikistan named Kayragach or Western Qalacha, isn't it? However, the article now says Kayragach is a village of Tajikistan near this exclave. Then the village must be either in Kyrgyzstan, or somewhere near Proletarsk in Tajikistan. See also this map, on which I do see the railway station Kayragach, just north of the exclave, and a village Kayragach in Kyrgyzstan some 20 km east of the exclave. Thank you for asking about this. It has been a couple years since I last studied this, and although I had the same concern about a purported village called Kayragach in Tajikistan, my edit failed to reflect that. I agree with your logic. It appears that the exclave is uninhabited, refuting any mention of a village being in the exclave. My understanding is this (having studied the same map as you did, some time ago):
1. Kayragach - uninhabited exclave of Tajikistan inside Kyrgyzstan
2. Kayragach - village in Kyrgyzstan
3. Kayragach railroad station - just north of the exclave
4. As far as I know, there is no Tajikistani village named Kayragach in the area.
This article should be about the exclave, as you say. Please go ahead with your edits to accomplish this, as it's all fresh to you. Jeff in CA (talk) 16:36, 10 January 2017 (UTC)[reply]
