Horse sense[edit]

That way they were in their home town in the morning, with a horse that was from so far away they could not have travelled [sic] to that town and back in one night.

This makes no sense as written. If the horse could get from one town to the other, why couldn't a man do the same? --Doradus

It could use some more clarity in the writing but I believe it is saying that the two thieves would be riding in separate directions and, thus, one would have a hard time convicting a man of stealing a horse that is two nights ride away if he only had one night to ride away. Apparently I wrote this poorly. Let's say you stole a horse in Brantford and rode it to Newcastle - that's one day's ride, so the next morning you'd be a stranger on a strange horse. No one would buy it from you. But by switching half-way, you returned to your home town the same night, and could put the horse in your own barn (etc.). Except for looking tired, no one would notice you had ever been missing, and the horse could be "introduced" at any time after that. Maury Markowitz (talk) 20:18, 4 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

States?[edit]

Did the organization spread into the United States or into neighboring provinces/territories of Canada? Dincher (talk) 18:02, 1 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

There were connections with other organizations in Quebec (Canada East) and they sold into the States. None of the references are very clear on this, with the exception of the "bootle" from Quebec, so I didn't want to get too specific. Maury Markowitz (talk) 20:19, 4 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Clear of the Peace?[edit]

Is this a typo or is there and office titled "clear of the peace"? Wkharrisjr (talk) 18:26, 1 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Good catch, He was Clerk of the Peace. Corrected. DoubleBlue (talk) 19:03, 1 July 2009 (UTC)[reply]
