Re-Assessment of article quality and importance[edit]

This article was assessed in 2008/2009 as C class and low importance. It has had considerable development work since, with all major areas covered and is well referenced. I think it is on par with other B class Australian education articles, eg James Cook University. It is an important Melbourne TAFE institution in vocational education and offering niche higher education programs, is currently expanding with the addition of Swinburne's Prahran Campus. See ABC news report: NMIT to turn Swinburne's Prahran campus into centre for creative arts, and there are indications CEO statement, 2012 Annual Report, pp004 it is moving to Polytechnic University status, the first polytechnic university in Australia. Therefore I have increased the education importance and Melbourne importance to midlevel.--Takver (talk) 06:21, 12 August 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Rebranding of NMIT to Melbourne Polytechnic[edit]

This educational institution is undergoing a rebranding and repositioning to Melbourne Polytechnic. See Mumbrella, 17 October, 2014 [1], and Herald Sun article from October 2014 [2]. I propose that this article is renamed as Melbourne Polytechnic and the existing Melbourne Polytechnic article is renamed as Prahran campus of Melbourne Polytechnic (The campus is being subsumed into the Institutes formal structure). A redirect should be put in place for Northern Melbourne Institute of TAFE to Melbourne Polytechnic. The TAFE template will need to be updated as well as some of the descriptive text on the Prahran campus page and Melbourne Polytechnic page to place this rebranding and repositioning in suitable context.
