  • how was the copyright dispute resolved? who are the "official" authors? --Mdukas (talk) 22:31, 18 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
The copyright page in the book says:
Copyright (c) 1931 by Langston Hughes and Zora Neale Hurston. Copyright renewed 1991 by George Houston Bass and Henry Louis Gates, Jr.
Bass was Hughes's literary assistant and Gates is one of the best-known African American intellectuals. I'm not sure why the authors' estates didn't renew the copyright. — Malik Shabazz Talk/Stalk 22:45, 18 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
