Reversions-"Kansas/tie game reference"

[edit]

The following has been included and reverted twice in this article:

"When she is brought on board, the team has its first taste of success, as Draper kicks a field goal in a driving rainstorm to forge a 3-3 tie with Kansas (in real life, Kansas holds the all-time NCAA Division I-A record for number of tie games with 57.[3])."

I would like to include the real-world reference in the article because I believe it is relevant and shows some "tounge-in-cheek" humor about the occurence of tie games in college football as well as a fresh popular culture viewpoint. Overaall, in my opinion the line makes for a better and more informative article on the topic.

I'm quite sure that the editor with the opposing viewpoint was making a good faith revert. In the interest of avoiding an edit war, I'd like to call for a discussion on the subject.--Paul McDonald (talk) 05:54, 25 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

I do understand that you made this addition sincerly, but it detracts from the flow of the plot (which has plenty of other problems too, per WP:PLOT), and is really just trivia. Let the movie stand on it's own, especially since we have no proof the writers included this purposely. In fact, what was the record in 1991? Did Kansas even hold it then? Also, the page you linked to shows that Kansas has 24 ties, and California has 74. Is this the correct link? - BilCat (talk) 13:44, 25 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I agree with Paul, and i'm going to revert it with a better link, that link only includes their games from the 1890s to the 1920s. It adds an interesting angle to the article. Doc Quintana (talk) 12:52, 26 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]
You're now apparently stalking me, as you've no history of ever having edited this article, and you're first edit is to simply revert me. So I'm now disengaging from all Amercian-football related articles on WP. You don't play by the rules, which are there to keep conflict to a minimum. As long as you think that explaining the rule is "wiki-lawyering", what's the point? Please leave me alone. If I want to have an endless argument, I'll call my sister! - BilCat (talk) 14:38, 26 September 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Coach Gennero

[edit]

I was surprised to see that the plot summary had absolutely no reference to Hector Elizondo's character of Coach Gennero, and in fact made it look like Coach Rig (Robert Loggia's character) was the head coach. I went ahead and fixed this by introducing Gennero as the leader of the new coaching staff (adding the nickname Chris Berman used for him), and amending the first reference to Coach Rig as "Assistant coach". I also added the part about Gennero being hospitalized and Rig taking over the Texas game, as well as calling the final play after Gennero's return.

I also added a mention of the Texas-Texas State barroom brawl in order to illustrate the rivalry between these two teams as shown in the movie. Kyojikasshu (talk) 15:40, 19 October 2011 (UTC)[reply]
