Content Dispute[edit]

There seems to be some dispute over content here. Whilst I think both sides have some valid points some sort of compromise needs to be reached. Please discuss changes here rather than continually reverting each other's edits. Just my initial thoughts, these categories are not necessary:

these categories relate to more generic articles than specific hostels. thanks Michellecrisp (talk) 03:13, 19 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

oops just noticed there was some discussion on your user talk pages.Michellecrisp (talk) 03:15, 19 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
I was just thinking how disjointed the conversation would appear to anyone who was reading only one of our 2 pages. Maybe we should copy it over to here.--JeffJ (talk) 14:55, 19 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]
Agreed, certainly it would be easier to get consensus on article changes. Michellecrisp (talk) 03:02, 20 May 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Ottawa Jail Hostel article[edit]

After reviewing both of these articles, I'm hard pressed to understand why there is a real need for the encyclopedia to maintain two articles here rather than one. Can someone shed some light on this? To be honest with you, even after the rewrite, the Hostel article still reads like a tourist brochure to me. cheers Deconstructhis (talk) 06:27, 28 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]

I support merging the articles. I would simply move the existing hostel article over to the jail page as is. I'm biased, but I don't see how the hostel info can be rewritten any further to make it read less "like a brochure". Any suggestions? --JeffJ (talk) 06:56, 28 February 2009 (UTC)[reply]
The Gaol is not the hostel, that's why there are two pages. The Gaol page should contain historical information whereas the hostel page should be hostel only. They could and likely should link to one another. June 26, 2009 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 209.87.255.21 (talkcontribs)
In regard to this edit [1], just a reminder that anyone with a vested interest in the subject of a particular article should make those interests clear before performing edits. thanks Deconstructhis (talk) 14:35, 26 June 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support reversed merge: gaol should be merged into the hostel article. The articles are about the same building, and since the hostel is the current use, that should be the remaining article. The "gaol" info can be merged as a history section into the hostel article. -- P 1 9 9 • TALK 18:49, 2 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
I disagree. The Gaol article is the stronger entry. If you remove the historical, gaol-related information from the Hostel article you are left with just a few sentences. --JeffJ (talk) 20:09, 2 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Yes the Gaol article is much better, but I'm not saying to discard the info. It should be merged to the hostel article so we could make this article just as strong and comprehensive. IMHO, it doesn't make much sense to have the current building redirect to its historic use. -- P 1 9 9 • TALK 21:09, 2 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]
  • Support. It's not as though either of these articles are very long. Most people looking up this subject are probably interested in both. - SimonP (talk) 20:15, 2 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Merge completed. As per established WP practice, the article will be under the current use/name (Ottawa Jail Hostel). -- P 1 9 9 • TALK 17:55, 7 January 2010 (UTC)[reply]
