Wall

Her father Frank Wall was a steamboat engineer on the Mississippi River born in County Londonderry, Ireland and the namesake of Wall, Pennsylvania.[1][2] Frank also traversed the Chattahoochee and Indian Rivers of Georgia during the Seminole Wars.[3] His wife was from Columbus, Georgia; she was born in County Tyrone.

Katherine's sister Mary Charlotte Wall married Benedict Francis Simms. The pair were the great grandparents of former New York Giants quarterback and Super Bowl XXI MVP Phil Simms. Benedict's first cousin was the grandfather of former Kentucky Wildcats back John Simms "Shipwreck" Kelly.

Kuhn

The 1908 Nashville Vols. Ferdinand is top left.

Doc Kuhn's paternal grandparents were born in the Kingdom of Württemberg in modern day Germany. His grandfather was a brewer in Nashville.[4] Doc's childhood home is now called the Frassati House, the building on Vanderbilt's campus for the 'University Catholic'.[5][6] Radio and television announcer Dick Dudley (birth name Casper Bernard Kuhn, Jr.) was his nephew.

Doc's father Ferdinand graduated from Notre Dame in 1883.[7] He was a member of the school's rowing team.[8] Ferdinand became a shoe merchant in 1903. He and two other men, E. P. Cooper and P. J. Geary,[9] started the business of Kuhn, Cooper, & Geary, which earned a reputation as the premiere footwear store in downtown Nashville.[10] Ferdinand was the president of the 1908 Southern Association champion Nashville Vols,[10] preceded in that capacity by Bradley Walker, and considered "the Father of the Knights of Columbus in the South."[11][12][13]

Michigan coach Fielding Yost and Vanderbilt coach Dan McGugin were brothers-in-law, and McGugin had played for Yost.

Alright I will be picking up the review of this one - both for the Wiki Cup and the GA cup as well.

Side note, I would love some input on a Featured List candidate (Mexican National Light Heavyweight Championship) and a Featured Article candidate (CMLL World Heavyweight Championship). I am not asking for Quid pro Quo, but all help is appreciated.  MPJ-US  01:19, 21 March 2016 (UTC)

GA Toolbox

I like to get this checked out first, I have found issues using this that has led to quick fails so it's important this passes muster.

Peer review tool
  • Lead - should be three paragraphs for an article this size, especially when going for GA
Copyright violations Tool
  • The tool picked up that there was overlap with the quotes, which is natural, but did not show anything else. Green tickY
Disambiguation links
  • No issues detected Green tickY
External links
  • Reference 9 - the "Montgommery Bell Academy" link is dead.

Well Written

  • "defensive player, selected All-Southern" should be "defensive player and was selected All-Southern"
  • There are a couple of places where the text uses a parenthesis to add detail to a sentence, such as "won two state football titles (in 1915 as a sub and 1917 as a starter)" should be rewritten without the parenthesis such as "won two state football titles first in 1915 as a sub and then 1917 as a starter" - it just flows better that way. The only time I thin it is okay is in places such as "and a 15–2–3 (.825) record". I won't point out every single instance of this but let me know if you have questions.
  • "On the same day Centre upset Harvard," - Not sure why this is included? seems like a side note, not something that has to do with Kuhn?
  • "Miraculous because of the treacherous footing."[24]" - A quote by itself? It needs to at least state who is quoted
  • No source for the final sentence in the "1921" section
  • "goal line" should be "goal-line"

Sources/verifiable

  • Reference 11 needs more details added
  • Reference 21 is from a book, it needs the appropriate book info added
  • Reference 28 needs the date, accessdate etc. added
  • Reference 43 seem to require a log in?
  • Reference 46 needs appropriate book info added
  • 51 needs a log in
  • 52 needs a log in
  • 51 needs a log in
  • 56 needs more data in the citation
  • 57 has no data at all
  • 58 - more details
  • 59 - more details
  • 61 - more details
  • 63 - more details
  • 65 - more details
  • 67 - has a title, date and nothing else? also "27 Apr. 1922" should be "April 27, 1922" to be consistent
  • 71 is just a date and a newspaper? Not enough to identify it
  • 74 - more details

Broad in coverage

  • Yes it's got more than his sports career Green tickY

Neutral

  • Yes, the words of praise in the article are all quoted and cited. Green tickY

Stable

  • Looks to be free of controversies and edit warring

Illustrated / Images

  • The tags all look appropriate, although I did notice ones marked as 1921 had a tag that referred to it being published in 1923 or later.
Thank you MPJ. I know nothing about wrestling but I will give those a look over. I've tracked down the images for the "civic leader" and "great shortstop" sources - still left amiss on a page number for the former and a newspaper for the latter. Cake (talk) 07:01, 21 March 2016 (UTC)
  • @MisterCake: - I have completed the review, and I am pleased to see that work has already begun already. Let me know if you have any questions or concerns about the review. I am going to place this review on hold, basically to signal that the actual review is complete and it's mainly about addressing issues now.  MPJ-US  11:20, 21 March 2016 (UTC)
Going to brush these up, but I first want to note the parentheses come from the copy editors guild. Cake (talk) 17:26, 21 March 2016 (UTC)
Really? that is a surprise, but I guess that may be more of a personal preference then. I trust you to use your judgement on what to adjust then.  MPJ-US  21:09, 21 March 2016 (UTC)
Just dropping in, what's with the conversions of yards to meters? Did the guild do that as well? Seeing as yards are used less as a unit of measurement and more as an aspect of the game, it seems odd to add metric conversions. Not to mention this is primarily an American sport. Lizard (talk) 16:32, 23 March 2016 (UTC)
  • @Mister Cake: - I have seen work going on in the last week, but I am not clear if you believe you've addressed all issues listed here etc.? Can you please give me an update? I Just want to be sure you're not just waiting for me to respond without me realizing it.  MPJ-US  00:19, 25 March 2016 (UTC)
I thinj I am MPJ, aside from the sources mentioned (e. g. the 'civic leader' from the Tribune). Yes Lizard, the guild did the meters. Cake (talk) 00:22, 25 March 2016 (UTC)
Excellent, then I will give it another read through over the next day or so to see if it's a GA level of if there are any minor tweaks needed.  MPJ-US  01:00, 25 March 2016 (UTC)
  • @Mister Cake: - I think it is all covered now, I am giving it the Good Article stamp of approval, Congratulations.  MPJ-US  00:51, 26 March 2016 (UTC)
