Comments and corrections[edit]

In the 1978 79 season of English National Opera North, I must point out that the production of 'La Boheme' was not directed by Patrick Libby, it was directed by Steven Pimlott. Furthermore, it was an original Sadler's Wells Opera production which was refurbished for ENON (English National Opera North) with new sets and costumes. An interesting fact was that Margaret Harris along with Motley Theatre Design were responsible for designing the original production at Sadler's Wells Opera. I must also point out that it was John Rawnsley who sang the role of Peter in Patrick Libby's production of 'Hansel and Gretel' in 1979-80. The company did indeed visit Dortmund with their production of 'Peter Grimes', but they also took Patrick Libby's production of 'Samson et Dalila' conducted by David Lloyd-Jones with the same cast that sang in the performances at the Grand Theatre, Leeds in 1978.

Thanks for this. I'm sure you're right but will have to check my programmes before editing the article.
The question of what constitutes the "principal cast" is endlessly debatable. In a table such as this, it isn't desirable or possible to include every single role and cast-member in every opera (think War and Peace or even Don Carlos). Mostly, I used the roles/singers in Leeks's book but even then I didn't always list everyone in his lists (e.g. I omitted the minor characters in Les mamelles de Tirésias). Conversely, it seemed perverse that the Don Giovanni lists include the Commendatore and omit Don Ottavio, so I zapped the former and added the latter. As for Hansel and Gretel, Leeks listed only the children and the Witch, and I followed his lead. It's a moot point (IMO) whether Peter should be added, but, if I did, I'd have to look out my programmes for 1978-80, 1981-2 and 2005-6 and/or search around for reviews. --GuillaumeTell 16:04, 13 May 2011 (UTC)[reply]
