Oregon[edit]

Is there a connection to Oregon in anything but the name? Katr67 (talk) 14:43, 24 October 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Yes; it owned the Oregon Railway and Navigation Company. --NE2 21:11, 6 August 2009 (UTC)[reply]
In his memoirs, Villard (yes, in the third person) describes the formation of this company as the boldest move of his business career. See here (actually start a few pages back): wikisource:Page:Memoirs of Henry Villard, volume 2.djvu/320 It's a pretty interesting story; I'll try to expand this article a bit. -Pete (talk) 16:47, 2 September 2011 (UTC)[reply]

Europeans[edit]

The article on the Northern Pacific Railway states (without apparent citation) that: "German-born journalist Henry Villard had raised capital for western railroads in Europe in 1871-73.... Through Villard's work, most of these lines became properties of the European creditors' holding company, the Oregon and Transcontinental Company." This stub omits explicit mention of that very important aspect ... that European capital built the US railroads. Twang (talk) 22:56, 16 March 2017 (UTC)[reply]
