  • I'm not familiar with the work, but it does give the impression of comprehensiveness.

Lead[edit]

  • is a comic book by the Belgian cartoonist: the "comic book" is an American format.

  • The story tells of two anthropomorphised bears: "anthropomorphic"
  • bears, Popol and Virginia, who travel: "Virginia" or "Virginie"?
    • In the original French, it is Virginie, but was translated as Virginia by Michael Turner and Leslie Lonsdale-Cooper for the 1960s English language publication. Midnightblueowl (talk) 16:33, 19 December 2013 (UTC)[reply]
  • The story contained a number of elements: "contains"
  • but it would be colourised and republished: there's nothing being contrasted here, so drop the "but"; also, change "would be" to "was"
  • Casterman then first published: the "then" is superfluous

Synopsis[edit]

History[edit]

  • produced Tim-L'Ésureuil, Héros du Far-West (Tim the Squirrel, Hero of the Far West): quotes around the title translation
  • 16 installments, each published on a Thursday: pretty wordy—"on Thursdays" or something would do

  • Hergé then re-used plot elements: "then" is unnecessary
  • and it would proceed to be serialised: "it was serialised" is sufficient
  • under the title Popol et Virginie au pays de Lapinos (Popol and Virginie in the Land of the Lapinos): translation quotes
  • During the German occupation of Belgium in the Second World War: German occupation of Belgium during World War II is a better link

  • In 1948, the comic would be coloured and re-serialised: "would be" to "was"
  • Casterman would then republish it in 1968: "Casterman republished it in 1968"

Critical analysis[edit]

  • appealed to children but also suggesting that its discussion of political and economic themes would appeal to adults: I think you need a comma after "children"
  • German Fuhrer: "Führer"
  • a reflection of current events at the time: "at the time" is superfluous

Refs[edit]

  • Refs #5, 13, & 17 have Harv errors.
  • A new English edition was published by Fantagraphics in 2013 under the title of Peppy and Virginny in Lapinoland: not according to the Fantagraphics web site. The source you use is from 2012, so it couldn't possibly be relied on to say the book was definitely released. Since the announcement Kim Thompson, the translator, has died. I suspect that's why "This title has been postponed indefinitely."

Pass. This looks like a Good Article to me.

One last comment—Hergé also introduced Quick & Flupke (Quick et Flupke): personally, I'd drop the French title here, as the strip is only mentioned in passing. Nothing "incorrect" about it, but from a reader's perspective it doesn't really add anything of substance, but it does drag down the flow of the prose.
