The result of the discussion was to merge.BrandonXLF (talk)

I am proposing to merge Queensland People's Party (QPP) into this article (Queensland Liberals). Below are my justification:

  • The QPP article only has three sentences which are already explained in detail in the Queensland Liberals page.
  • QPP is the same entity as Queensland Liberals as it was a simple rename.

It is important to note that in the QPP article, it says it became Queensland Liberals in 1948, but this is unsourced and is probably wrong. The citation for the same event (but in 1949) in the Queensland Liberals article is the Australian Dictionary Biography (ADB) of Thomas Hiley, which states July 1949, which is reasonably correct given the reliability of ADB. Proven to be July 1949, from this newspaper source. However, other references I have found from 1948 seem to suggest QPP may already be part of the Liberal Party before the July 1949 change of name. This could explain why in the QPP article, it says "In 1948, they became the Queensland branch of the Liberal Party of Australia.", which could be true, but without a change of name. Nevertheless, I will add the exact date of rename and this reference to the article. Marcnut1996 (talk) 03:10, 27 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
My only issue with the original merger request was that the contention that they were the same organisation was unclear and didn't seem to be well-sourced, and you've clarified that with a source that is absolutely unambiguous. The content is better in this article anyway so it's a no-brainer with that clarification. The Drover's Wife (talk) 08:10, 27 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]

Support per above. Here's another explicit source. Just a name change. Ivar the Boneful (talk) 11:06, 27 November 2019 (UTC)[reply]
