General: Article is new enough and long enough
Policy: Article is sourced, neutral, and free of copyright problems
Hook: Hook has been verified by provided inline citation
QPQ: Done.

Overall: Article meets eligibility criteria - newness and length. Article's tone has no issues. Earwig does not show much of a concern. The hook is interesting, however, can we simplify this one for the lay audience? Does the hook mean that only male species of the plant have been discovered so far? If so, just stating it as such would be impactful and interesting. Handing back to nominator for their inputs. QPQ is done. Ktin (talk) 02:49, 8 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]

  • Hello @Ktin:! Thank you for taking the time to read the article, I'm not too sure if I want to go there, since I'm not exactly a hundred percent sure as to the situation on the ground for R. meijeri. If you think that an alt hook with the way you have worded it you are welcome to do so, but I myself am not entirely sure. Would an alt hook such as:
ALT1 ... that Rafflesia meijeri's name honours Willem Meijer for his work in the conservation and study of Rafflesia plants?
work as a viable alternative hook instead? Ornithoptera (talk) 06:45, 9 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
ALT1 looks good. Can we add a qualifier in front of Willem Meijer's name? e.g. "Dutch botanist Willem Meijer". Fwiw, I do think that ALT0 is quite powerful if we can simplify "type locality" Ktin (talk) 02:51, 10 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
ALT2 ... that Rafflesia meijeri's name honours Dutch botanist Willem Meijer for his work in the conservation and study of Rafflesia plants?
ALT3 ... that only male plants of Rafflesia meijeri were found at its discovery site?
Thank you for your help @Ktin:! I hope these hooks are satisfactory, changed ALT2 as per your request, and changed "type locality" to "discovery site"! Ornithoptera (talk) 05:47, 10 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Thanks @Ornithoptera:. ALT3 looks good. Would you be alright with a minor reword of ALT2 to ALT2.1 below? i.e. replaced "honours" with "named after".
ALT2.1 ... that Rafflesia meijeri was named after Dutch botanist Willem Meijer for his work on conservation and study of Rafflesia plants? Ktin (talk) 16:19, 10 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Sounds amazing, thank you for the suggestion! Glad to have worked with you @Ktin:! I hope you have a wonderful day! Ornithoptera (talk) 17:13, 10 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
Marking ALT3 and ALT2.1 approved. Nice work on this nomination. Ktin (talk) 17:26, 10 May 2022 (UTC)[reply]
