Saigoku[edit]

This article should be renamed "Saigoku 33 Temple Pilgrimage" NOT "Kansai". It's hardly even colloquially called the "Kansai Pilgrimage". — Preceding unsigned comment added by 183.77.65.241 (talk) 15:30, 29 May 2012 (UTC)[reply]

Kansai Kannon PilgrimageSaigoku 33 Kannon Pilgrimage – First, this name is consistent with the Chugoku 33 Kannon Pilgrimage. More importantly though, the pilgrimag's name is "Saigoku". It is never called the "Kansai Pilgrimage". The final temple is not even in the Kansai region. There is no reason to use a baseless, arbitrary name for a named pilgrimage. • It's not 33 kannons. It's 33 temples dedicated to Kannon/Guanyin. I don't recommend including any kind of number in the title. This type of numerology is not nearly as common in English as it is in Asian languages. Religions of the World (p. 2497) calls this subject the "Saigoku Kannon Pilgrimage." I used the number for consistency with the Chugoku Kannon Pilgrimage article, but I've no invested interest in number or no number (but whichever is decided, the other should probably be made consistent). Moving it to Saigoku Kannon Pilgrimage sounds good to me. ChubbyWimbus (talk) 16:50, 5 September 2013 (UTC)[reply]
