Advertisement?

I don't agree that this article reads like an advertisement. The user who added the tag did not offer any justification or input. I believe it should be removed. Any opinions? Lord Bodak 14:21, 28 April 2006 (UTC)

I took out the part specifying the $7 commission. But they are known for their online features (they were one of the first online brokerages, their commissions are much better than the competition, and their founder does appear in the commercials. Saying that Scottrade's commissions are "much better than the competition" would definitely be POV, but that's not on the page. Saying they're known for their low commissions is also POV unless the source is a reputable third-party. Isopropyl 22:58, 30 April 2006 (UTC)

I have a Scottrade account. Saying they have the lowest commissions is CORRECT. Find me a brokerage firm that has offices and the extensive website they provide for $7 trades, regardless of account size or trading frequency...it does not exist.

aside: while watching the current series of Scottrade ads, has anyone noticed that the tail rotor on the helicopter which Rodger Riney appears to be piloting is not even spinning? In real life, a helicopter in this configuration would gyrate dangerously out of control. Where were the tech advisers when this commercial was being produced? Escherplex 16:42, 20 April 2007 (UTC)

Hi, I’m the social media manager at Scottrade, and I recently noticed that an unsubstantiated claim had been added to our page. I’d like to request that the following sentence be removed, as it does not include a source and cannot be substantiated. Thank you.

Sentence to be removed: Recently given the changes in philosophy within Scottrade, including the termination of more experienced and higher paid brokers and branch managers, Scottrade has not entered the '100 Best Companies to Work For' list.

Attempts to suppress details of the hacking incident

There have been repeated attempts to remove some details of the hacking incident without providing justification for the removal. The cited source clearly states (emphasis mine): "Scottrade disclosed last week that cybercriminals penetrated a database of more than 4.6 million clients’ personal information, including Social Security numbers, email addresses, client names, street addresses and “other sensitive data,” in late 2013 and early 2014. That data included brokerage account numbers, spokeswoman Lizzie Curry revealed Thursday." If another RS disputes these specifics, please add a statement to that effect and source it. Otherwise, please refrain from making disruptive edits. Thanks

Trying to update sources

I noticed that the page said that there was an issue with sources (primarily referencing their website). I am trying to:

• clean up the advertising on the page,
• get things in the right chronological order
• find valid sources for what's remaining.
  

I'm still new to Wikipedia, but I read that for major changes, it's best to discuss them here, or to build out the page on my talk page so that the content can be structured properly and accurately before going live. Scottrade Update Proposal is what I'm currently working on and I could use some help getting some of the sections fleshed out.
Currently, the only part I feel is close to complete is the "History" section as far as sourcing goes. Any input on language is appreciated. What I could really use help on is the award section and I'm still learning how to format and I'm not sure the best way to proceed with this because the live version just feels like a mess.

I believe I have most of this page updated appropriately. I could not find sources for all the services they offer, so if no one has an issue with this, I may provide a link to their services page for this content only. (The primary website I did find information on these issues is apparently blacklisted by Wikipedia. I'll leave the changes up for a week, but if there are no problems with the content, I plan on updating the "Live" page Friday. Feedback is highly appreciated. This page is complete.

I can see that this talk page has not been updated in years. I have done much work in updating citations to support content, and refining this page to support the history of a now defunct brand currently owned by Charles Schwab Corporation via the soon-to-be defunct TD Ameritrade.
