Rhodes[edit]

The entry says 'However, as head of the mining company that owned most of the assets in the town, Rhodes proved to be more of a hindrance as he did not cooperate fully with the military.' does not sound right at all. The writer obviously hasn't read his 'Further reading' of Phelan's Siege of Kimberley. De Beers' workshops i.e. Rhodes, made shells for the Army's guns and eventually manufactured a 4 inch gun, nicknamed Long Cecil, which fired 30 lb shells (I have one of them)and was a match for the Boers until they brought in their 6 inch Creuset guns towards the end of the siege.Egoli (talk) 20:57, 2 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

A number of texts state that Rhodes interfered with military strategy. e.g. by going to Kimberley himself, he compelled the military to mount a defense of the town when it did not necessarily make military sense to do so. Furthermore, during the siege, he continously undermined the garrison commander, Kekewich's, authority. See here Socrates2008 (Talk) 11:12, 3 July 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Various Things[edit]

I added a citationneeded tag to a sentence in the last section, and that section could also do with a bit of a tidy up, if I'm honest; it's a tad fragmented. The geotags are a nice touch, but if you're going to take this to FA, they're extremely distracting and break up the flow of the article. Finally, I was disappointed to see nothing about the psychological effects of the siege on the defenders, which I believe has been covered in a number of texts over the years.
