Untitled[edit]

I'd like to see video of the Silver Dollar fish being caught in Brazil. How do they catch them for sale in aquariums?71.82.91.161 05:13, 23 August 2007 (UTC)[reply]

Genus or Species?[edit]

@Tryptofish I would like to ask your opinion. This article was suggested to me for editing. Upon reading the article, it appears that the article refers to the genus Metynnis. Under the subheading "Silver Dollar Species", it lists Metynnis argenteus as one of the species, with the common name "Silver Dollar". Then there is a link to a separate Wikipedia article on the M. argenteus.

Should the article clarify that "Silver Dollar" can refer to either the Metynnis genus or specifically to the M. argenteus species? Should there also be a redirect link so that users can be directed to either the genus or the species, depending on what they want to look up?

This does look like it needs some clarification. We also have a genus page on Metynnis, and the page here implies that the common name can sometimes come up for some other closely-related genera. I think we should keep all three pages, but there should be some more linking between them. At first glance, I'm thinking that we don't need a "hatnote" (such as Template:See also). The other pages link clearly, I think, to where they should, but this one could use a little work. I'll make an effort at some edits here. --Tryptofish (talk) 18:29, 2 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
Done. I can see lots of other things that could stand to be polished up on this page, so happy editing, and thanks for asking me. --Tryptofish (talk) 18:35, 2 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
@Tryptofish Thank you too. I really would like to edit the page more; unfortunately, I need access to more resource materials. LaivineOrodrim (talk) 14:44, 3 May 2023 (UTC)[reply]
