Allusions[edit]

I'm not always good at allusions. I hope other readers will help out. In particular, I probably got the OZ character names wrong. Fordsfords (talk) 04:47, 24 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

Speedy Deletion Dispute[edit]

I created this page and intend to expand it (along with some colleagues). I believe that in a few days, the page will meet the criteria for being included in the encyclopedia. Fordsfords (talk) 01:23, 23 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The speedy deletion was withdrawn by the initiator shortly after it was asserted. Fordsfords (talk) 04:47, 24 September 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The Matter of Tip's Crossdressing[edit]

Shaenon Garrity refutes the claim that she ever called it a form of "Self Flagellation". Her opinion on that edit: "... the Wikipedia entry for Skin Horse contains some dubious citations. At no point have I ever said that I consider Tip's cross-dressing "some form of elaborate self-flagellation." I don't even know what that means. But it kind of freaks me out." Read the commentary for the strip at the following link if you don't believe me. http://www.webcomicsnation.com/shaenongarrity/narbonic_plus/series.php?view=archive&chapter=42366 —Preceding unsigned comment added by 24.192.180.59 (talk) 08:29, 14 December 2009 (UTC)[reply]

Wiki vios[edit]

This article has a number of serious Wikipedia policy violations, most significantly those of neutral point of view and no original research. The essay on literary allusions is pure uncited OR, and remarks about what's notable and not, and sentences like "These heavier topics are treated with a light hand and a warm wit" are among the many POV comments. First-name references to the creators violate WP:TONE, as does the generally promotional, advocacy tone of the article as it was written. Please be aware of the policy regarding promotional or self-promotional material. On a less note, phrases such as "recently" and "currently" violate WP:DATED. Please read the Five Pillars of Wikipedia before editing. --Tenebrae (talk) 19:34, 12 July 2010 (UTC)[reply]

Reference updates[edit]

There is a huge amount of discussion and joking that goes on in the comment area of the comic, as opposed to the comic's forum, the former of which is (a) part of the Webcomics Nation website, making discussion references outside said site difficult to come by and (b) frustratingly difficult to cite precisely. I'm slowly working to add external references, though, but there are few at this time that I've been able to locate. Clear, direct references to the "Oz" allusions are proving to be particularly difficult to find, though there are numerous indirect references, e.g., Tip drawn one Sunday in a gown similar to that of Ozma's in some of the L. Frank Baum Oz books with an "OMG SPOILER!" comment by Garrity, Shaenon Garrity posing for photos with a Tik-Tok prop from the movie Return to Oz on display at Skywalker Ranch, the "Beni", "Luigi", and "Victor" boxes/devices (the titular robbers in L. Frank Baum's, "The Box of Robbers") referred to in the "Tin Solder" arc, etc. -- Nick Zerhakker (talk) 11:06, 10 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]

The above comments appear to be original-research claims and analysis, which Wikipedia by policy disallows. I've removed the blog links, as blogs are disallowed as reference sources except in very limited circumstances under strict, specific criteria. Additionally, WP:COI precludes us from adding links to our own sites, blog or otherwise. Before anyone adds any additional citations footnoted to the comic itself, please read the policy at WP:PRIMARY. -- Tenebrae (talk) 03:06, 11 October 2010 (UTC)[reply]
I'm not exactly sure, what "the above comments" try to say. If you broadly take the general "discussion and joking that goes on in the comment area of the comic" I'll agree, that this is unfit material for Wikipedia. If however you take the comments and discussion snippets from the authors of Skin Horse themselves, which happen to be on the same pages, then I don't see why this should be any worse source than any press interview.
Also, while it's clearly wrong to say "Tip is like Ozma because user SoAndSo says so on <some forum>" I can't find anything wrong with "many readers of Skin horse have drawn parallels between characters from L. Frank Baum's Oz universe and characters in Skin Horse". Or is such a statement of an obvious and easily verified fact also too original(TM)?
