County Council[edit]

The turnpike cannot have passed to County Council management in 1870, as County Councils were not created until the late 1880s. The date 1870 is credible, but the successor authority would probably be a local highways board. Peterkingiron (talk) 16:28, 17 February 2008 (UTC)[reply]

The trust got a stay of closure under the Turnpikes Acts Continuance Act to Nov 1873, and held its wind-up meeting on 23 Mar 1874. It's residual cash was shared out as redundancy payments and then among parishes and Highways Boards according to the mileage being assumed. ref Abbots Langley Then, C W Clark, ISBN 0953147304 Bazj (talk) 21:23, 28 March 2008 (UTC)[reply]
