Templates[edit]

This article is in need of an infobox!

I found Template:Infobox City, but we don't have all that info yet. Mark1 04:20, 8 August 2005 (UTC)[reply]

Userbox[edit]

I have now created a Userbox for Wikipedians living in Vientiane. Add this template to your userpage:

User Vientiane

The Userbox will automatically add your name to Category:Wikipedians in Vientiane and create a box that looks like the one below. Cheers. APB-CMX 04:16, 21 September 2006 (UTC)[reply]

Contradiction in population figures[edit]

First paragraph shows metro area population smaller than city proper. Iamvered (talk) 02:39, 9 January 2012 (UTC)[reply]

First one was probably for Vientiane Capital, and the other for the province of Vientiane, which is to the north. The Lao National Tourism Administration pegs the population at around 600,000 [1], whereas the US department of state puts it at around 850,000[2]. Contradiction in mentioning Udon Thani[edit]

The History section says that "Thattaradtha founded a city called Maha Thani Si Phan Phao on the western banks of the Mekong River; this city was said to have later become today's Udon Thani, Thailand." However, Udon Thani is rather distant from the (current) course of the Mekong. Instead, Nong Khai (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nong_Khai) is a much more likely candidate. However, the right thing to do would be to track down the source (if any) and find out what really "was said". — Preceding unsigned comment added by Esb (talkcontribs) 00:39, 4 September 2015 (UTC)[reply]

Duplicate content in this article and Vientiane Prefecture[edit]

There is content in Vientiane Prefecture which I believe rightly belongs under Vientiane city. Particularly the History and Landmarks sections of Vientiane Prefecture. Users are likely to visit the Vientiane city article first and may not necessarily visit the Vientiane Prefecture article.

For History, all but the last paragraph of History in Vientiane Prefecture would rightly belong in the Vientiane city article. Or better still, a History of Vientiane subarticle might need to be created. This could then be linked from both main articles to avoid version differences which have now arisen in the texts.

And for Landmarks, this info in Vientiane Prefecture is something a user would expect to find under Vientiane city. But some landmarks do pertain to the prefecture e.g. Buddha park. Again a subarticle is likely the best course.

Blacklisted Links Found on the Main Page[edit]

Cyberbot II has detected that page contains external links that have either been globally or locally blacklisted. Links tend to be blacklisted because they have a history of being spammed, or are highly innappropriate for Wikipedia. This, however, doesn't necessarily mean it's spam, or not a good link. If the link is a good link, you may wish to request whitelisting by going to the request page for whitelisting. If you feel the link being caught by the blacklist is a false positive, or no longer needed on the blacklist, you may request the regex be removed or altered at the blacklist request page. If the link is blacklisted globally and you feel the above applies you may request to whitelist it using the before mentioned request page, or request it's removal, or alteration, at the request page on meta. When requesting whitelisting, be sure to supply the link to be whitelisted and wrap the link in nowiki tags. The whitelisting process can take its time so once a request has been filled out, you may set the invisible parameter on the tag to true. Please be aware that the bot will replace removed tags, and will remove misplaced tags regularly.

Below is a list of links that were found on the main page:

MAJOR ERROR ON BRATISLAVA PAGE[edit]

Hey guys just wondering, on the old bratislava page, they say they're the only capital on the border of two states, isnt this one one too? — Preceding unsigned comment added by 210.55.212.231 (talk) 13:10, 15 February 2014 (UTC)[reply]

This one borders just one state, Thailand. Bratislava borders both Austria and Hungary. Mattximus (talk) 03:19, 2 November 2014 (UTC)[reply]

The last sentence of the second paragraph is incomplete. I can guess what is supposed to be there, but I don't want to add information based on a guess. Owney2011 (talk) 20:39, 1 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Too little information for Vientiane[edit]

You should be able to use additional information about Vientiane, such as the administrative region, district and population of each district in Vientiane. each district of Vientiane in more detail Don't pay too much attention to other countries. Because this page is about Laos, Vientiane (except from other countries or cities really related to Vientiane) and uses references that should be accurate and reliable, for example through surveys, analyzes. A reliable reference should be a Lao reference. As for the English language, the website should provide information that corresponds to the current situation in Vientiane. ข้อมูลมาตรฐาน (talk) 17:44, 4 April 2022 (UTC)[reply]

Tourism section seems to contain contradiction[edit]

The Tourism section currently says: Although still a small city, the capital attracts many tourists. In what sense is it a "small city", if the article also claims it is the largest city in Laos and has a million inhabitants? 213.219.154.70 (talk) 20:57, 10 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

It's a nonsense sentence anyway. Whether it's a small city or not is irrelevant to its attractiveness to tourism. Tourism is big in big cities like Barcelona; small cities like Branson, Missouri; resort towns like Cozumel; ancient communities like Macchu Pichu; places with only one sight like Cooperstown, New York, natural sights like Iguazu Falls; and wide-open spaces like Central Kalahari Game Reserve. I've fixed it, and attached the following sentence. Largoplazo (talk) 12:16, 11 November 2023 (UTC)[reply]

Do the Southeast Asian Games really deserve a place in the intro?[edit]

Are the Southeast Asian Games such a major event that they need to be in the introduction part? I see that it's a biennial event and some other cities have already hosted it 4 times. Doesn't sound like such a big deal. Ilya Kogan (talk) 13:16, 27 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]

It probably seemed lead-worthy when added in 2009 but not so much now. I've removed it. Largoplazo (talk) 13:39, 27 January 2024 (UTC)[reply]
