Initial Overhauling

I...doubt that anyone has a problem with me overhauling the Wikipedia page. As a current student, I'm pretty sure I can figure out some information that's needed. I don't know much about West Hill's history, however, so if anyone's reading this and actually knows something, add it in! Blurion 05:56, 21 January 2007 (UTC)

And just to add to my earlier edit/comment, I know that the robotics team did very well in a competition. I removed that from the trivia section just because I'm sure we placed better one time and think that would be better. When the weekend's over, I'll be sure to ask around. Citation

All right, I've managed to get a hold of West Hill's 50th Anniversary book, thanks to a friend and Ms. Hodgins. I'll be going through it in more detail to add to the history section. It's also where all the current information was taken. I'm just mentioning it here because I'm not exactly sure how to cite this thing... I'm pretty sure that if you need confirmation of its existence, you can call up the school, though :P I'm also going to try and take a picture. The campus section was written with my own knowledge and a bit from the anniversary book. I'll get a confirmation on the number of classrooms tomorrow, as I'm not quite sure if it's accurate. Trivia Section Removal

Hi I cleaned it up a bit, to remove POV and puffery. I also reorganized the extracurricular activities section. I marked the trivia section with a maintenance tag, as trivia is only appropriate for very small stub articles. Once an article is this full, it should have trivia converted to other sections. Ah, thank you. Since I was writing from the 50th anniversary book and my own experience, it would of course be POV, so I was a bit worried about it. I'm pretty sure the one about Denham Brown to extra curricular activities - sports. I'm unsure as to where the one about UTSC should go, as well as the middle one. I think it's important to mention somewhere that West Hill has three exam periods, as I've heard of no other high school in Ontario that still does this. Maybe they can go under an academics section? There's some data about the OSSLT and math EQAO results on the TDSB site, I believe, so such a section is feasible. Blurion 03:25, 29 January 2007 (UTC)

Controversy Updates

Hello, the extra-curricular sections are now beefed up in all of its sub-sections, and a few touch-ups here and there. I've also added in the school logo. Being an alumnae of the school, I've also added more to the Controversy part too. I don't believe it's right to hide the low points of the school in order to better its image, but instead to let the public see that this school has had its difficulties, and has made substantial efforts and the right actions to overcome their struggles and persevere. That is what I believe shows strength within a school and does NOT reflect negatively upon the school. Whoever decides to delete that information I've added, is cowardly of the school's past, and is not strong enough to build the school into a better educational environment. Regarding Famous Alumni

I'm wondering about those people listed there... Did they really go to West Hill? At the school, there's a wall of some of our famous alumni, but I don't think I've seen Paul Tracy on there. I have, however, seen that guy from Highliner frozen fish products. Perhaps I'll take pictures of this wall as a method to provide much needed citations in the article. Off topic, but I'll try to get pictures around the school, particularly one across the street and one in our quad. In the Wikipedia pages of Dwayne De Rosario, Anthony Bennett, Russell Martin, Tyler Toffoli, Danial Mullings, and John Tory, I read all of their wikipedia pages that they went to West Hill Collegiate Institute. It's written on their pages which you can check. In that case, can you please add their names on the notable alumni section of West Hill Collegiate Institute? In fact, that's why the article is protected. You keep adding unsourced and/or false claims into BLPs that the people attended this school, and then use that as justification to add them to this list. Disputed addition of notable alumni

An editor has disputed the addition of Gervan Fearon to the notable alumni section of this article. As was mentioned in my edit summary, Fearon was included per WP:LISTPEOPLE, which does not require the person added to have a Wikipedia article, but does require the person meet Wikipedia's notability requirement.

Also, the person's membership in the list's group is established by reliable sources. See here and here.

Finally, as president of Brandon University (and former dean at Ryerson University), Fearson satisfies criteria 6 of WP:NACADEMICS: "the person has held a highest-level elected or appointed academic post at a major academic institution or major academic society". My point is, for the fourth time, that is that it is up to you to provide sufficient reliable sources in your addition to the article to support the inclusion of the alumnus if there is no article showing the person's notability. You did not do so. A single community news source is not sufficient.

Does Brandon University qualify as a major university? If it does then I agree that Fearon meets point 6 of WP:NACADEMICS, but I don't think that a university with less than 4000 students is a major university. His former position as Dean at Ryerson was not the "highest-level elected or appointed academic post" and is irrelevant to whether he qualifies under point 6.

I'm happy to let other editors weigh in on whether Brandon is a major university, and if not, whether the new sources provided on this talk page are sufficient to show his notability.

No need to waste more people's time, it doesn't matter whether Brandon University qualifies as a major university or not, his notability is established without that. And maybe Share News, "a weekly community newspaper which has served the Black and Caribbean community in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA) of Ontario, Canada since April 9, 1978", made all that stuff up about him attending West Hill Collegiate? Please WP:AGF. I didn't suggest that Share News made up any information, and I don't dispute that he attended the school. Since he does not have an article to dhow his notability and you chose not to write one when asked, I'm simply asking that you provide sufficient reliable sources to show his notability. I've questioned whether Show News qualifies as a reliable source per WP:NEWSORG. I've already said I'm happy to have other people look at your new sources and decide if they are sufficient.
