The letter was used in Russian in the past, a fact not acknowledged in the article. For example, this coin of Peter the Great uses it, the first time in the place of the word "and." Yet I can't seem to find any secondary sourcing on that. The Russian version of this page explores it (without sourcing), saying it's an orthographic variant of the letter you'd expect used before vowels and Й ("употреблявшимися перед гласными и Й"), though, on the coin, it's not used in this way.
