Eela Tamilakam or Tamil country of Sri Lanka is Tamil speaking part of Sri Lanka, which comprises the provinces of Northern Province, Sri Lanka, Eastern Province, Sri Lanka and the district of Nuwara Eliya. From Pre Historic period Tamil people lived in the Northern part of Sri Lanka also known as Nagas. Later period Tamils from Chola country migrated to Northern region and formed separate kingdom. After the arrival of Vijaya from North India and settled in Sri Lanka, he later married the Princess of Pandyan Kingdom and many Tamils from Pandya country settled in East part of the Island. During 12th century Tamils from Kerala, Java settled in Eastern and North Central part of the Island. The Tamil fisherman community from India settled in wester coast of Sri Lanka in 15 century and some of them asiimilated with Sinhalase population now. In 18th century Tamils from South India brought by Britisher's to work in plantation settled in Central Sri Lanka. They form the people of Tamil country of SriLanka.
