Petitioner is a refugee protected under the United Nations (“UN”) mandate. He is from the Republic of Somaliland, a quasi-independent country that declared its independence from Somalia in 1991. Undersigned counsel believe that the primary, and perhaps sole, reason Petitioner remains imprisoned at Guantánamo is because he is a recognized refugee from Somalia, a country mired in civil war, who would like to return to Somaliland, a country which the United States does not officially recognize.

Petitioner, Mahmood Salim Al Mohammed (“Petitioner”), who is currently detained in military custody at the United States Naval Station in Guantánamo Bay, Cuba (“Guantánamo”), hereby submits this Status Report pursuant to the Scheduling Order entered by Judge Thomas F. Hogan on July 11, 2008.
Petitioner Jawad Jabbar Sadkhan Al-Sahlani (hereafter “Jawad”) has been imprisoned at Guantanamo Bay for over six years.[2] He remains there today. Jawad is a Shiite Muslim from Iraq and is now approximately 41 years old. He is married and the father of four children, approximately ages 11, 9, 8, and 6.
Petitioner Abdul-Rahman Sulaeiman, ISN #223, (also identified as Sulaiman) (hereafter “Abdul-Rahman” or “Petitioner”) is a citizen of Yemen who has been imprisoned at Guantanamo Bay for approximately six years. He remains there to this today.[2]
