Retired
This user is no longer active on Wikipedia as of May 2012.

Here are my thoughts on retiring from the project. Lots of people want to be admins. The quickest way to become an admin is to delete a lot of stuff. WP:IDONTLIKEIT is, albeit improperly, a fundamental criteria and motivation for many or most items brought up for deletion. Of course this motivation is dressed up in the guise of other guidelines and policies, but, c'mon folks, the patterns are unmistakable.

In the final analysis - why spend time writing stuff so a 12-year-old can get the admin bit 5 years from now for deleting it? Life is too short.

Cheers. HausTalk 16:16, 21 June 2013 (UTC)[reply]

Notice

The file File:Bowditch-fig-404-a.png has been proposed for deletion because of the following concern:

unused, low-res, no obvious use

While all constructive contributions to Wikipedia are appreciated, pages may be deleted for any of several reasons.

You may prevent the proposed deletion by removing the {{proposed deletion/dated files}} notice, but please explain why in your edit summary or on the file's talk page.

Please consider addressing the issues raised. Removing {{proposed deletion/dated files}} will stop the proposed deletion process, but other deletion processes exist. In particular, the speedy deletion process can result in deletion without discussion, and files for discussion allows discussion to reach consensus for deletion.

This bot DID NOT nominate any file(s) for deletion; please refer to the page history of each individual file for details. Thanks, FastilyBot (talk) 01:01, 11 March 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Email[edit]

This is what I wrote, I sent it via email as I wasn't sure you would see it here: Hi - I see that you are retired from Wikipedia, but I thought I would email you for two reasons: 1. to thank you very much for all your work early on in getting the Organized Labour project running and helping build the structure that we have today. 2. try to encourage you to come back to work on the project again. Not sure if it matters much to you, but there is at least one active and friendly labour project person who's happy to collaborate. With respect, --Goldsztajn (talk) 13:07, 22 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

Hi. Thanks for the note. I forgot how to indent, so... woops. After 8 years I'm still kind of dispirited by the deletionist jihad and almost all the interactions I have with Wikipedia other than as a consumer are deletion notices. So, again thanks, but that part of my life is over. Best of luck to you! HausTalk 16:54, 22 May 2020 (UTC)[reply]

A tag has been placed on Category:Requests for Maritime Trades peer review requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section C1 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the category has been empty for seven days or more and is not a disambiguation category, a category redirect, a featured topics category, under discussion at Categories for discussion, or a project category that by its nature may become empty on occasion.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be deleted without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. Liz Read!
