The 2012–13 season is Arsenal Football Club's 21th season in the Premier League. Arsenal will seek to win their first trophy for seven seasons, competing in the Premier League, the FA Cup, the League Cup and an as yet to be decided, UEFA Competition.

Review[edit]

Pre-season[edit]

On 30 April 2012, Arsenal announced they were going to sign German international, Lucas Podolski from Cologne for an undisclosed fee.[1] Podolski will officially join Arsenal when the summer transfer window opens on 1 July.[2]

Arsenal's pre season will see them take part in a tour to the Far East and Africa, similar to the one they embarked upon before their 2011-12 season.[3] Arsenal will start their tour by traveling to Malaysia to play a Malaysian XI in Kuala Lumpur.[4] From there, they will travel to China to play fellow English team, Manchester City in Beijing in the inaugural "China Cup".[4][5] Arsenal will then travel to Hong Kong to play Kitchee SC.[4] They will then travel to Nigeria to play "a leading African team" in their first visit to Africa since visiting South Africa in 1993.[6] Manager, Arsène Wenger said that Arsenal had compromised on their normal pre season training camp in Austria to "get in touch" with Arsenal's fanbase.[3] Due to the 2012 Summer Olympics being held in London, it was announced that Arsenal will not host the Emirates Cup tournament as part of their pre season[7] due to the fact it would lead to increased pressure on London's infrastructure.[8] However, Arsenal chief executive, Ivan Gazidis stated that the Emirates Cup would be hosted by Arsenal in 2013.[7]
