Welcome (Round 2)[edit]

Your first badge!

Hey, welcome to this site in a more personal way. It will be good to have another person with knowledge about the 6 star rank material; the article you have come across has become sort of a battleground over the past decade. Watching it is now almost a full time job.

So, I've seen the good the bad and the ugly over the past 12 years on this site and like to think I know how people are and how they act on Wikipedia. Here's my two cents to get you going, its just advice, but I think its good advice.

  • Create a User Page: Do this right away. Red link user names tend to turn people off. They tend to think they are vandals or otherwise here to start trouble. Don't even get me started on anon ip edits.
  • Avoid being Single Purpose: Being labeled as a single purpose account will draw suspicion and criticism one does not need. SPA labeling tends to happen if a brand new user, with no edits to their name, shows up on a highly active article and starts making major changes or blanking entire sections. Try to edit several non-controversial articles before taking on the big fish.
  • Don't flaunt credentials: I've been very guilty of this. Avoid saying who you are in the real world and especially advertising education or military service. I've seen many a user fall hard and fast showing up on talk pages demanding respect because they have a degree or that they held a certain rank in the military. I was one of them and learned the hard way.
  • Don't edit war: Goes without saying. New users who start edit warring, blanking articles, or violating WP:3RR tend to get targeted by others and kicked off the site real fast.
  • Have fun!: This can be a fun site if you make it so. So, yes, have fun!

Enjoy your first badge, as well. See you around! -O.R.Comms 14:47, 24 October 2016 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. Your recent talk page comments on USS Enterprise (CV-6) were not added to the bottom of the page. New discussion page messages and topics should always be added to the bottom. Your message may have been moved. In the future you can use the "New section" link in the top right. For more details see the talk page guidelines. Thank you. - theWOLFchild 00:56, 24 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]

Information icon Hello and welcome to Wikipedia. When you add content to talk pages and Wikipedia pages that have open discussion (but never when editing articles), such as at USS Enterprise (CV-6), please be sure to sign your posts. There are two ways to do this. Either:

  1. Add four tildes ( ~~~~ ) at the end of your comment; or
  2. With the cursor positioned at the end of your comment, click on the signature button ( in the enhanced toolbar, or if you use the old "classic" toolbar) located above the edit window.

This will automatically insert a signature with your username or IP address and the time you posted the comment. This information is necessary to allow other editors to easily see who wrote what and when.

Thank you. - theWOLFchild 00:59, 24 April 2018 (UTC)[reply]
