Why intros to articles often don't have references[edit]

Hi Analogstats, and again welcome to Wikipedia and thank you for your contributions.
My name's Peter, username Shirt58 (talk · contribs), a long-time editor from Melbourne, Australia.
The introduction section in Wikipedia articles - often called in Wikipedia jargon the "Lede" - shouldn't normally have any references. That's generally because

the "lede" should be a concise summary of the article
everything in the article below the "lede" should already be properly referenced.

Sometimes the "lede" does include references. Maybe this should be the case with The Young Turks, an article you have been discussing here?
