April 2010[edit]

Welcome to Wikipedia. Although everyone is welcome to contribute constructively to the encyclopedia, articles should not be moved, as you did to Echo & the Bunnymen, without good reason. They need to have a name that is both accurate and intuitive. We have some guidelines in place to help with this. Generally, a page should only be moved to a new title if the current name doesn't follow these guidelines. Also, if a page move is being discussed, consensus needs to be reached before anybody moves the page. Take a look at the welcome page to learn more about contributing to this encyclopedia. Thank you. Please do not use styles that are unusual, inappropriate or difficult to understand in articles, as you did in Ashes to Ashes – Series 3 (soundtrack album). There is a Manual of Style that should be followed. Thank you. Please do not change the formatting of song titles when they are correctly formatted with quote marks. Hello. I have seen the article changes you have made today and they are in blatant contravention of article titles rules. This is because, the rules state that the names should be the "most likely to look for" when searching, and obviously without me telling you I'm sure you are clever enough to realise that people are more likely to search for "Ray Carling" than "Raymond Carling", as this is the name he is commonly referred to. Cutting and pasting[edit]

Hi, and thank you for your contributions to Wikipedia. It appears that you recently tried to give a page a different title by copying its content and pasting either the same content, or an edited version of it, into another page with a different name. This is known as a "cut and paste move", and it is undesirable because it splits the page history, which is needed for attribution and various other purposes. Instead, the software used by Wikipedia has a feature that allows pages to be moved to a new title together with their edit history.

In most cases, once your account is four days old and has ten edits, you should be able to move an article yourself using the "Move" tab at the top of the page. This both preserves the page history intact and automatically creates a redirect from the old title to the new. If you cannot perform a particular page move yourself this way (e.g. because a page already exists at the target title), please follow the instructions at requested moves to have it moved by someone else. Also, if there are any other pages that you moved by copying and pasting, even if it was a long time ago, please list them at Wikipedia:Cut and paste move repair holding pen. Please don't change the format of dates without good reason, as you did to Ashes to Ashes (soundtrack album). Most British people and many people internationally write dates in day-month-year order, e.g., 12 December 1904. Most Americans use month-day-year order, e.g., December 12, 1904. If the article is about an American topic, use month-day-year. If it is a British or European topic, use day-month-year. If neither, leave it as originally written. Many Americans or British people take offence if an article about their country, written in their local version of English, is changed around to a version they don't use. So please do not do that.

The redirect pages you've nominated for deletions (speedies and prods) are useful redirects to have should the main pages remain (which is by no means certain). RE: Page titles of Ray Carling and Chris Skelton[edit]

Hello. I left the original message about you moving the pages "Ray Carling" to "Raymond Carling" and "Chris Skelton" to "Christopher Skelton" on 14 April, it is now the 28 April and despite editing since I left the message you have failed to reply. Today, as per article titles rules I have moved the pages back to "Chris" and "Ray", simply because the shortened first names are more likely to be searched than the full names which they are rarely referred to.
