I seem to have got this twice. Oh, well... Brianboulton (talk) 11:07, 3 February 2014 (UTC)

Sir Ralph

After my most stimulating and comprehensive PR ever, I have Ralph Richardson up at FAC. If you have time and inclination to look in, it will be esteemed a favour. – Tim riley (talk) 21:41, 4 February 2014 (UTC)

It will hurtle through. I will do my bit (assuming I get there in time) Brianboulton (talk) 21:44, 4 February 2014 (UTC)

Theatrical knights, including a fat one.

Du Maurier and Casson, forsooth! If you're not careful I'll give you Sir Godfrey Tearle and Sir Felix Aylmer.. I am in fact working, as you don't need me to tell you, on Gielgud and (possibly) Olivier, but before I get Sir John up to the starting gate, I have Verdi's Sir John at peer review, after much expansion by Viva-Verdi and self. I hope you can be tempted to look in. No rush. We shall probably not do much till after Ralph Richardson is safely delivered (God willing) to FA. Tim riley (talk) 23:20, 5 February 2014 (UTC)

You seem to be forgetting Sir Michael Hordern. He was great and often overlooked. Sir George Robey was, by all accounts a great Falstaff. Were you both aware? Oh, and he was both a knight and fat. -- CassiantoTalk 01:09, 6 February 2014 (UTC)
Michael Hordern! I saw him in all sorts of roles, including George in Jumpers in which he was as funny and touching as Simon Russell Beale was embarrassingly boring in a later production. Did Robey play Falstaff on stage? I have, of course, seen the death scene in the Olivier Henry V film. If, young Cassianto, you have the urge to pursue the Falstaff theme, pray look in here and here. Tim riley (talk) 01:41, 6 February 2014 (UTC)
I will be glad to look at the Falstaff expansion. I once toyed with the idea of working on this article myself, before realising that I didn't know enough and didn't have the time to do the research (though compared with what I put myself through to do Tippett, it might have been a doddle). Re Beale: he may have been a rotten George, but he was memorable as Widmerpool, and not half bad as Falstaff in the televised Henrys. This article says that Robey played Falstaff in Henry the 4th Part 1 at His Majesty's Theatre, and another article dates this appearance to 1935. Brianboulton (talk) 15:45, 6 February 2014 (UTC)

Smith

Hi Brian, I hope you are well. I'm just dropping you a note to draw your attention to Ian Smith, whose article I have just nominated for FA here. As always, your opinion would be very much appreciated if you have the time. Keep well and have a great weekend. Thanks, Cliftonian (talk) 14:02, 8 February 2014 (UTC)

I'll certainly look at it, after the weekend (I've little online time at the moment). Meanwhile, for some reason the link to the FAC page from the Ian Smith talkpage is showing red, although the nom has been completed. Perhaps worth investigating. Brianboulton (talk) 17:10, 8 February 2014 (UTC)

A barnstar for you!

The Copyeditor's Barnstar
Yet again I find myself indebted to you for your skills, judgment and knowledge at the recent PR and FAC for Kenneth Horne. Many, many thanks for all your help once again. - SchroCat (talk) 12:09, 9 February 2014 (UTC)

I'm very pleased to see the article promoted. A worthy FAC. Brianboulton (talk) 12:24, 9 February 2014 (UTC)

A favour

I have tried emailing you but am told that there is an issue there. I've penned some more for publication on the same subject as the first, and would be very grateful if you would look it over. I was quite annoyed that the first article contained typos the editor should have caught.--Wehwalt (talk) 02:08, 10 February 2014 (UTC)

I finally got my computer guru to open up my email account, and he managed to print off a copy of the material in question. The printer had trouble with some of the symbols, particularly quote marks, but the copy is readable, so I will work on it later in the week and let you have my comments. Good to catch up with old Ezra again. Brianboulton (talk) 10:35, 10 February 2014 (UTC)
Thanks for that. No great hurry. I have learned, submit in haste, regret at leisure.--Wehwalt (talk) 03:16, 11 February 2014 (UTC)
Would you mind terribly if I begged off on the image review? I am trying only to do short edits as typing is a bit slow just now, oddly. No hurry on the material, I'm going to hold off for a bit.--Wehwalt (talk) 02:41, 14 February 2014 (UTC)

Spectator archive

Afternoon Brian, I'm not sure if you're aware, but The Spectator has recently made available online a copy of its entire archive. I think it's relatively new, and may contain something about Profumo that may be of use or interest. Cheers - SchroCat (talk) 16:18, 11 February 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for alerting me. I did know they were doing this, but didn't realise that it was up and running. A quick scan indicates that not all issues are yet fully online, also that there are numerous scanning errors which make reading difficult at times. But these are small gripes – this is potentially a wonderful resource and I am sure I will use it a lot in the future. I have found a couple of quotes to add into the Profumo article, which will shortly be arriving at FAC. Brianboulton (talk) 17:17, 11 February 2014 (UTC)

Politicians

  • Digression apropos of your next FAC: Michael Flanders in At the Drop of Another Hat: "As Lord Denning said in his report, none of this going around saying 'No smoke without fire - nil combustibus pro fumo.'"
  • I've done the top half of the Ian Smith article and added my comments at FAC. Over to you. Tim riley (talk) 16:06, 12 February 2014 (UTC)

Sources on Wells Cathedral

Brian, Just to let you know I sneaked a look in your sandbox for the source review of Wells Cathedral and I'm working on them.— Rod talk 15:13, 15 February 2014 (UTC)

Thanks for these - I think I've dealt with most of them but added a couple of questions at Wikipedia:Featured article candidates/Wells Cathedral/archive1.— Rod talk 18:39, 15 February 2014 (UTC)

So about that review...

Sorry to be a bother again, but think you could take a look at Tel Kabri again? As soon as I remember how to post a kitten on talk pages, you shall recieve one! Sir William Matthew Flinders Petrie | Say Shalom! 17 Adar I 5774 19:38, 17 February 2014 (UTC)

I'll be happy to do this, but can you first provide me with a brief summary of the work that's been carried out since I last looked at the article some six weeks back, and also what it is that you would particularly like me to be looking out for now? Brianboulton (talk) 19:50, 17 February 2014 (UTC)
I basically made all the fixes that you and Nikkimaria suggested-although I condensed the Tel Kabri Archaeological Project (2005-ongoing) section into two logical subsections instead of one as it would have been too much a block of text as one in my opinion. The prose should be good now and everything that I could see at last go, which required explanation, is explained either in-line or via footnote. The only thing I have concern about is whether there's any other style or prose issues, and also what needs to be referenced in the footnotes? Trying to get it to be at least GA quality before I start thinking about A and FA-quality. Thanks! Sir William Matthew Flinders Petrie | Say Shalom! 17 Adar I 5774 20:24, 17 February 2014 (UTC)
OK, I'll read it through, concentrating mainly on prose and referencing. It may be a few days before I get to it because of other work, but I'll leave my final thoughts on the article's talk. Brianboulton (talk) 20:58, 17 February 2014 (UTC)
Thank you very much! Sir William Matthew Flinders Petrie | Say Shalom! 17 Adar I 5774 22:42, 17 February 2014 (UTC)

One other thing...

The Treasury of Atreus needs some love and I've currently got the sources. Any examples that would be handy to work off of for implementing improvements? As you can see, the current article is depressingly short and I'd like to help it out. Sir William Matthew Flinders Petrie | Say Shalom! 18 Adar I 5774 00:21, 18 February 2014 (UTC)

Sorry, this is a bridge too far. You're on your own with this one! Brianboulton (talk) 17:25, 19 February 2014 (UTC)

Joining the queue....

Hi Brian, Could I put in a request for a PR when you have a chance? It's for the writer E.W. Hornung, who is only remembered nowadays for one of his characters, rather than the rest of his considerable output. There's no rush, so whenever you get the chance, it would be much appreciated! Cheers - SchroCat (talk) 21:48, 19 February 2014 (UTC)

Of course. Can I suggest, before I get down to any detail, that you remove the "upright" from the Uppingham School image? It looks absurdly small at the moment. I'd also align it left. And the caption should clarify that this is only a part of the school that Hornung attended, otherwise readers might think he was educated in a cowshed. Brianboulton (talk) 10:01, 20 February 2014 (UTC)
Many thanks! Your suggestions taken on board (although judging by the only two people I've met from Uppingham may as well have been educated in a cowshed—I hope they were not representative of the school's usual output)! Thanks again. - SchroCat (talk) 10:19, 20 February 2014 (UTC)
...these two being, I assume, Stephen Fry and Boris Karloff. Brianboulton (talk) 17:19, 20 February 2014 (UTC)

Please help!!

Hi Brian, Remember me from Mandell Creighton? I need your help. I'm being driven up the wall by two editors who are champing at the bit to undo my edits to V. S. Naipaul. I've been away from Wikipedia on account of serious illness in my family. I am back now, but these editors, who suddenly turned up out of the blue two days ago, claim I have ownership issues. I've said over and over again to let me at least finish the article and to then have the article peer-reviewed by any number of capable WP reviewers, but they don't seem to be listening. Please help and weigh in at Talk:V. S. Naipaul. Fowler&fowler«Talk» 23:25, 21 February 2014 (UTC)

Millwall/West Ham

If you have the time, could you finish the source review on Millwall F.C.–West Ham United F.C. rivalry. My friend and I put a lot of work into it and you should find a lot less issues than you did in the first column. Cheers. BillyBatty (talk) 05:28, 23 February 2014 (UTC)

THe FAC has been archived. If/when you renominate I will do the sources review. Brianboulton (talk) 08:46, 23 February 2014 (UTC)

Another Yorkshireman!

There's another obscure Yorkshire cricketer at PR. It was going to be something or someone else but the GA process is a bit stagnant these days, which has slowed down the other ones which are brewing. You may have heard of Bobby Peel as he is the chap who supposedly urinated on the pitch (and there's a moderately amusing story as to where that story may have come from) before being sacked. If you can stand it, any of your comments would be appreciated here. Sarastro1 (talk) 20:47, 25 February 2014 (UTC)

Yes, I've heard of Peel, probably because of the piss-on-the-pitch incident. I've just looked him up – 102 wickets in 20 Tests is pretty good, even in the days when pitches resembled either cobbled streets or mudslides. I'll definitely review the article, but it may take a few days. Brianboulton (talk) 00:23, 26 February 2014 (UTC)

Hornung

Following a very productive and useful PR (for which, once again, my thanks), E.W. Hornung has made his way to FAC for wider consideration. Any further thoughts or comments would be most welcome. - SchroCat (talk) 13:43, 28 February 2014 (UTC)
