Topic Ideas

Brecca

Here are some ideas I have found for a topic: Theodore Simon

      -He is an individual listed on the stub suggestions on Blackboard and does not have much information on him on wikipedia.
      -There is information on him in our book in Ch. 13 that could be helpful

Resistance (psychoanlaysis)

      -This is another stub suggestion on Blackboard
      -There is information on this topic in Ch. 11 which would be helpful for us to use

Another idea I thought of was doing something related to sports psychology, such as a person or some particular topic. I noticed we could maybe expand information on Coleman Griffith who is given credit with the discovery of sports psychology, so we could do some research on him possibly. I like the idea of doing something related to sports psychology, and Coleman Griffith seems like a good option. I did a quick google search on him and it seems like there would be a good amount of information available. The other ideas seem good too, but I think it would be harder to find information on Simon, and the Resistance page has a good start on it already, which would make it harder to improve. Here are some other options I found; both are from Ch. 15 in our book.

-Augusta Fox Bronner, a female psychologist who worked with delinquent youth.
-Naomi Norsworthy, the first female Ph.D. at Columbia.

Neither of them have had a Wikipedia article written about them yet, so we would be able to create our own from scratch. I was able to find some information on Augusta Fox Bronner and her work seems interesting. However, I think going with someone like Coleman Griffith would be easier. Let me know what you think. I like the idea of doing something on sports psychology as well! Coleman Griffith would be interesting for sure. I've also read a book called the psychology of enhancing human performance which was written by Frank Gardner and Zella Moore. It talks about a topic called the mindfulness acceptance commitment (MAC) approach to enhancing human performance. It's pretty interesting topic and there's no wikipedia articles on either the topic or those two psychologists. You guys should check it out and see if it's interesting to you. Out of the other ones you guys mentioned I think Coleman Griffith would be my first choice, and then Augusta Fox Bronner my second. erin.teschuk (talk) 03:08, 16 September 2015 (UTC)

I would say my top choices of what was mentioned would be if we want to do a person then either Coleman Griffith or Augusta Fox Bronner. If we would rather do a topic then the mindfulness acceptance commitment (MAC) sounds interesting to me too. What do you guys think for our top 2 choices? Would everyone be okay with putting Coleman Griffith as our fist choice? Either of the authors of the book Erin mentioned or Augusta Fox Bronner would be a good second choice for me. I looked up mindfulness acceptance commitment and a Wikipedia article for acceptance and commitment therapy came up. Are they similar? Coleman Griffith - good choice!

Hi Group 15, I had never heard of Coleman Griffith before this, but this looks like a very good Wikipedia article to expand. The article is not really a stub, but there's a lot of room for improvement. You could add an info box, picture, and table of contents, for starters. (If you split up the article and add section headings, the TOC will be generated automatically.) From what is there already, I'm guessing you can find a lot of new information to add to the article. Coleman Griffith - References & Questions

Hi everyone Looking at the current wikipedia page for Coleman Griffith I think one of the main things we need to change is to add some more headings and sub-headings such as add subheadings to the biography as well as add in some sections on his work and theories. I found some sources that seem like they'll be useful for this, especially in adding more information on his work and ideas in sports psychology. 1) Miller, K. G. (1927). Review of The Psychology of Coaching. Psychological Bulletin, 24(10), 608-609 2) Gould, D., & Pick, S. (1995). Sport psychology: The Griffith era, 1920–1940. The Sport Psychologist, 9(4), 391-405

Two questions: 1) Would it be best to make a general introduction heading for him, or should we just keep it as it is with the biography being the main opening section? 2) Is it worth adding information on early or personal life, or should we just start with his contributions to psychology?
